Not sure if this has been pointed out before, but I just came across this passage in the book, Brothers: From Childhood to Oasis (written in 1996 and co-authored with Paul Gallagher), on page 43 about the young Noel Gallagher:
His favourite, though, was a toy wigwam which he was never out of. He loved it so much that whenever we played cowboys and Indians, he'd always wanted to be one of the Indians.....
Surely this can't be a coincidence. Surely Liam titled the song after Noel's favorite childhood toy? I mean, how common is the word Wigwam, seriously?
As for the song itself - I won't go as far as saying it's about their father, because it isn't, but there does seem to be some elements in there of Tommy Gallagher ("You're taking off in the night/You're coming in when it's light", "Another bottle in your hand/You're sick of life and its demands")

I believe Liam have said in an interview that he bought a wigwam himself, and just named the song he had laying around to "Wigwam". Just because he thought it was a cool word. I don't think Liam had Noel in mind when he named the song.

This explanation sounds plausible. Especially since Liam has recently been dedicating the song to cowboys and indians.

Yeah at recent gigs Liam has been saying ''Are there any indians in the house?... or cowboys?''.

Is that since he's been in N. America? Because that could be the reason for the inclusion recently.
After all N. america is the home of the cowboys and indians.

Always thought the song was about himself. Never thought it could be about his father. Could be though, nice one

I thought the name was a random word that sounded good and the song could be about anybody with a dead end job who gets pissed at the weekend. I think the vast majority of people can relate to it and I don't think there is any special meaning behind it

I think the vast majority of people can relate to it and I don't think there is any special meaning behind it This is obviously the answer. But speculate away, young'uns... I don't think the title is random. Again, Wigwam is not a common word and has nothing to do with the song's content - Liam had to been influenced by something for that title. Maybe it was another song as suggested already. Maybe it was influenced by Noel's toy. Who knows? But I very much doubt that there's no connection behind it. As for the lyrical content of the song? I agree, it could apply to Liam himself, it could also apply to anyone with a job as Nyron has suggested. And both interpretations I think are spot on. It's clearly not about their father for this reason: "You make it up to the wife/ You say you're wrong when it's right" - that's an apologetic sentiment, and we all know Tommy Gallagher never demonstrated that. Did Liam consciously get part of his lyrics from his upbringing? Who knows, I'd say probably not. But again, it would be way too coincidental to discount a subconscious element here......

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if this song was about his childhood. Remember the lyrics are "Another bottle in YOUR hand.YOU'RE going out in the night. YOU'RE coming in when it's light. YOU make it up to the wife..." Then he changes person and says, "I'M coming up..." Also, I agree that in the end Tommy was a deadbeat but that doesn't mean he didn't try half-heartedly to make it up to Peggy and the boys for a day or two before going back to his normal self. That's usually how it is in abusive relationships until finally someone decides enough is enough, this guy's full of shit and never gonna change. On a side note, this is my favorite song on the album even though it's a little too long at the end.

I like listen to Wigwam, but I don't really like the End...cause it's similar to Coming Up by McCartney...less disco but similar (same lyrics too --> "I'm Coming Up") ...but maybe it's just a coincidence...
