Are there any people in here who are into bands like Cast, Northern Uproar, 60 ft Dolls, 18 Wheeler, The Shack, The Hybirds, The Candyskins, Ocean Colour Scene, Speedy, Hurricane #1 and Heavy Stereo? Bands that were dubbed as playing Noelrock in the press in the mid/late britpop era. Those bands were even more guitar-focused and perhaps a bit heavier than other britpop bands, while at the same time they also were a bit more explicit in their 60s influences. I guess that The Boo Radleys' Wake Up album, The Charlatans' The Charlatans and Tellin' Stories, and especially The Real People also could fit into this subgenre, even though they started off before anyone knew who Noel Gallagher is. I of course think that those bands are the fucking business. Major Noelrock tunes: Cast - FlyingNorthern Uproar - Any Way You LookThe Charlatans - Tellin' Stories60 ft Dolls - Talk To MeThe Candyskins - Monday Morning (a huge personal favourite. unfortunately, the cool video is no longer on youtube)

I actually like Magic Hour a lot. The title song, Company Man, Compared To You, Alien etc. All very nice songs. Think it's stronger than Mother Nature Calls actually.

The Charlatans aren't bad. Haven't given anyone else on that list a listen though

Nah, The Charlies were writing tunes like that before Noel. See the album Up to Our Hips, more specifically Jesus Hairdo and Can't Get Out of Bed. They're one of my favorite bands, it's a shame their new album is rubbish.

the genre gets kinda old for me but these bands are solid. Charlatans and the cardigans (not really Noelrock) were/are great bands. oh and by the way my username isn't because I like the band Cast, just a heads up.

The latest album was not very good no, although I haven't listened to it a lot. But the 2008 album was ace!

only Noel did Noelrock properly. Charlatans do have a couple of good albums, not spectacular though, Cast have a good album and a couple more nice songs. Don't really dig anyof the other bands. Both heavy stereo and hurricane #1 are awful.
Boo Radley's Giant Steps is great, but it's not Noelrock. It's way better than Wake Up Boo

If Noelrock was big enough to merit being a proper genre, it would be my favourite; I love pretty much all the bands you mentioned above. Would take Speedy out you rlist though, because if I remember correctly they were right on the pop edge of Britpop and looked like kids TV presenters (unless I'm mistaken). Some other bands that may appeal to fans of the above bands (not sure if they're strictly 'Noelrock' as in Noel himself didn't sing their praises) are Whiteout, The Gyres, Smaller, The Kynd, Mantaray, Coast, Sussed and The Diggers, most have a few videos on youtube for those interested

THANKS A LOT for those tips! I'll check them out. Only heard Sussed out of these, I think. I am with you on the favourite genre thing btw

No problem, Sussed are probably the worst on that list so you're in for a treat

The new ones aren't very good either way, it's a damn shame.
