Serge to continue on his own? Seriously? Neither are great singers but Toms voice had an attitude that fitted their heavy propulsive tunes. Perfect for Club Foot and all that. Not so much the ballads though and that’s where they went wrong - mostly stopped writing heavy floor fillers and moved towards generic rock with every album a diminishing return since their third. He’ll be back in a few years though. Kasabian aren’t finished by a long shot. I actually disagree with the sentiment that they ever went pop and fell off. Might not be specifically what you mean but I see it a lot on social media and don’t really get it. For me For Crying Out Loud is far from their worst album - probably only behind Velociraptor, West Ryder and (just) the debut. Ill Ray, In Love with a Psycho, Wasted, Comeback Kid, The Party Never Ends and Bless this Acid House are all great tunes. I’d go 1. Velociraptor 2. West Ryder 3. Kasabian 4. For Crying Out Loud 5. Empire 6. 48:13 48:13 is probably the only one that’s not quite as good, still not bad by any means. Think maybe they just never ‘pushed on’ like say Arctic Monkeys did. Be interesting to see what Serge does, I adored Favourites and Nobody Else as singles but once the new album came out the only other one that was any good was Lockdown.

To be honest haven’t listened to it back that much, probably should give the whole thing another listen but when that came out I just sort of thought ‘meh’. Not bad or anything but didn’t really stick for me. In saying that Favourites is probably one of my favourite songs of the past couple of years and Nobody Else is outstanding so I can’t say the album was terrible.

Imagine if they released the songs already written for the new album but with guest singers instead of Tom. Would be very interesting.

Now it all sadly makes sense, that statement from the band.

Genuinely never understood Kasabian at all. Even from the time Noel was singing their praises, it just made no sense to me at all. Tried and failed a number of times, they just sounded uninspired / dull to me. I thought maybe seeing them live at Heaton Park in '09 might have changed my opinion, sadly not however.
But hey, we all can't have the same tastes, so kudos to anyone who's enjoyed them and their music over the years. This does sound like bad news for the band and their fans.

Thread of what he done... Grim. Looks like the band sacked him yesterday knowing this was coming.

Tom is not well for years, just look at some of his interviews. I thought that I was anxious as fuck but then I see some his interviews and realise that he is 10 times worse. Anxiety plus god knows what else. He needed help years ago, I knew that something like this would happen sooner or later. I hope that woman is ok.

Very lucky to avoid prison. He loses the ability to make (appalling) music and no doubt his marriage and some of his friends but will retain a millionaire lifestyle. I hope that video haunts him tbh

I hope that video haunts him tbh I think he should have probably been jailed tbf. Not that I don’t believe in rehabilitation and redemption but having video of him hitting his Mrs and dragging her around by her ankles is worthy of a custodial sentence.

Smacking around his ex in front of a child, you can't come back from that. Right move from the band.

Smacking around his ex in front of a child, you can't come back from that. Right move from the band. Hmmm, they stood by him until he decided to change his plea; innocent until guilty I guess. So, the girlfriend decided not to give a statement against him, as most do, which is her prerogative, but so harrowing for the child who was not only scared enough to dial 999, but in the aftermath when both these adults denied it rather than standing up and backing the child’s truths; the child who was in their care while they were both heavily intoxicated. Hopefully looking this kid in the eye again will be impossible for him. He had the luxury of just a CCTV version of events and couldn’t even face watching it, the child has the real thing to live with.

Weird one eh. Maybe Tom has done something really shitty to one of the other guys so he’s been punted? Shame as they’ve been mates since school days I think? Will be interesting to see if they continue with Serge doing all the vocals. Well I was almost right. What a bawheed. Career over.

I was very judgemental towards the statement, but they clearly released it knowing all of this. They probably had to release it before the news broke so it didn't look like a reaction.
What an awful thing to do and how the FUCK is he not serving jail time? I have a family member who was abusive towards his partner and I can't look him in the eye. Awful, scumbag. Proper KUNT behaviour.

Knowing the fickle forgetful public they may be able to come back from it in 2024 for 20th anniversary shows of the debut album
