ITS non-executive director discovered Oasis performing in a small Glasgow music venue. Now Alan McGee and The Storm, one of the bidders for the new Glasgow FM radio licence, are to stage a series of one-off gigs for unsigned rock bands in Glasgow. The consortium is one of a dozen suitors for the lucrative licence, which will reach up to two million listeners in the Glasgow area. If successful, The Storm is also pledging £400,000 over three years to a scheme that will offer tuition and guidance to aspiring rock bands at Glasgow schools and colleges. The concerts are part of Storm Unsigned, an on-air programme initiative that will champion local rock music talent that is struggling to be heard, demonstrating The Storm's commitment to Glasgow's thriving grassroots rock scene. The Storm has already produced a CD featuring many of the bands in the line-up for these shows. The Storm Unsigned showcases will be held at Barfly, The Cathouse, and King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow, the venue where Alan McGee first saw Oasis play a decade ago.
