Being with Sky Broadband is incredibly and increasingly frustrating. I live in a student house with 4 other friends in Aberdeen and we have the Sky package. The problem is we have been told by Sky that they will be suspending our internet access on the 28th February due to malaware which is apparently sending out spam emails in one of our laptops. Which one we don't know because we have done security scans and nothing has come up.
Here's the most frustrating part - they have told us we have to format all our laptops, send them a certificate of proof that this has been done then we get our internet access back. Also, I haven't mentioned that the customer service helpline is atrocious at giving us information.
If I am right in thinking, formatting my laptop means I'm going to lose everything on my laptop - my itunes and all my files along with programs like Microsoft Word and Powerpoint (which I can't find the bloody discs for now). I really don't want this to happen - please help?!

what the hell? they can't force you to format all 4 laptops. that's insane! I'm not even sure it's legal. you ask them for proof that one of your laptops is sending out spam emails before you do anything

If there is nothing dodgy going on, on your part then why should you format the laptops?! Screw that man!!
I would take it further mate, put in an official complaint or an enquiry with them. You have rights as a consumer. As Eva says I would ask for proof. It could be they have messed up & are trying to cover their tracks.

I'm pleased you guys understand my frustration! They could at least give us information as to what laptop has the problem. Damn straight I am definitely going to write a letter of complaint. The way they are treating us is appalling. I really don't want to format my laptop - I did not sign up to Sky to be treated like this. I'll be calling them up shortly and screaming blue murder down the phone!
