Springsteen's The River, but it did nothing for me. Not enough variety, and too clean-sounding. In case Stolen Car left you unimpressed, here is a FAR superior version that I can't recommend enough.

With a slightly different tracklisting of: - Vertigo
- Miracle Drug
- Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own
- Love & Peace or Else
- City of Blinding Lights
- All Because of You
- Crumbs From Your Table
- One Step Closer
- Original of the Species
- Yahweh
- Mercy
I removed A Man and A Woman just cos there already enough downtempo songs in the second half and A Man and A Woman didn't do enough to raise the energy level or serve a purpose in the album's concept, plus Mercy is too good to leave off. Not to mention, it caps off the album by answering "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" with "love, peace and, importantly, mercy", to give the album some cohesion instead of just leaving it as a hanging group of songs that it felt like as is. It's also different from other U2 albums because it's a big closer instead of just one final word to leave you on before the next go-about, and I like that.
Tracks ranked: Mercy (of course), City of Blinding Lights, Sometimes..., All Because of You, Love & Peace, Miracle Drug, Original, One Step Closer, Vertigo, Yahweh, Crumbs. Most of these songs are manageable and there's some cool-sounding songs (Love & Peace especially, ABOY) and some good writing, but there's some points where it just feels really basic or already done (Yahweh comes to mind, Crumbs, Original..., Miracle Drug). It's in my bottom three or four for U2 albums, but Mercy is still one of my favorite U2 songs. COBL is also a very well-composed song with a lot of energy, Sometimes... really comes alive with the arrangement and Bono's emotional vocals, and both ABOY and Love & Peace are the best U2 rock songs that they've come up with in their post-Pop attempts to chase the "four guys in a room" sound.

Amazing album. The opening track is one of my all-time favorite songs and may just be one of the most amazing pieces I've ever heard. The whole album flows so well and each of the over 900 samples seamlessly fit together to create something new and otherworldly that no artist has ever done before or since. If you haven't listened to Since I Left You by The Avalanches, PLEASE do so, you will not regret it. Favorites: Since I Left You, Radio, Close to You, A Different Feeling, Extra Kings.

Seek out the promo version that has all the original samples and a slightly different tracklist. That's definitely the definitive version, a real shame they weren't able to release it like that.

I'm on the title track right now and the breakdown between the four and seven minute marks is what compelled me to make a post. I've never fully dived into Miles Davis's work but the way he fuses rock and jazz together while not necessarily sounding like one or the other, but still sounding fresh and original, is mind-blowing. I was reading that "Jack Johnson" takes the sound more in a jazz-rock direction, so I'll have to go toward that next, but damn this is amazing.

Fleet Foxes Rarely hear harmonies in music these days, so this album sticks out from recent years. One of the best albums of the last 20 years, no studio trickery just good old folk performed to the highest standard.

Got this album on vinyl yesterday. I'm so glad I did coz it sounded really good this way (45rpm too) and the booklet that came with it was really nice to read and look at. Even though I had seen the doc about this release, reading that thing made me appreciate this version even more. I honestly think this might be my favourite Scream album right now. guigsysEstring what are your thoughts on this release btw?

Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain are really nice. Have you seen the film Miles Ahead?

It’s a great biopic about miles Davis but it’s neat because it’s not told in a typical chronological way. They look at 2 distinct periods in his career and as you see how they connect, you get the message of the film.
Unless I’m thinking of a different biopic. Love and Mercy about Brian Wilson maybe? That ones amazing too.

I honestly think this might be my favourite Scream album right now. guigsysEstring what are your thoughts on this release btw? I liked 'Give Out...' when it came out even though it was obviously a derivative record, and as the follow up to 'Screamadelica' it didn't fair too well critically. The Memphis Sessions are good in the unpolished feel that captures the Stones-y sound and vibe they were going for, although at over £400,000 the finished album was probably the most expensive for Creation who were fortunate enough to have Oasis coming through around the same time to persuade Sony Music not to pull the plug on the label. Alan McGee was responsible for the a fair amount of the costs by bringing in various people to work on these recordings that he felt were "too flat". I get his point with songs like 'Rocks' being too retro even for the mid-nineties given that similar sounds such as The Black Crowes had earlier fell out of fashion, but overall I prefer this release to the 1994 LP.

Ocean Rain by Echo & the Bunnymen.
Great collection of songs imaginatively arranged, but why does it sound so tame? The guitars have no presence, and neither does anything else, apart from Ian's voice. Can't work out if it's just mastered quietly or badly mixed. Have yet to find a volume to play it where it sounds right. Loud or quiet, all I can really here is Ian. Bloody 80s recording techniques...

This might be crazy but I've always loved "Nocturnal Me" enough to call it my fav.

Strongest BoC release IMO. This is also really high in the list of the greatest EPs ever made.
