For a laugh I’m going to try to listen to every known genre of music. According to Wikipedia there are 1,392: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_styles_of_music:_A–FI’m going to work through these in rough alphabetical order. Lets kick things off with... Genre 1: Acoustic music – “a music that solely or primarily uses instruments which produce sound through entirely acoustic means, as opposed to electric or electronic means.” Seeing as Oasis are the band that started my music obsession, Liam’s new acoustic sessions seemed an appropriate place to start. Great to hear his voice sounding so good! X

Genre 2: Acid trance – “a psychedelic style of trance music.” Time for something a bit more left field. I was never that fussed by big room trance. But I love acid and a good 303 so quite liking this... Hardfloor - TB Resuscitation. These guys remixed Blue Monday. I’d never heard this before. X

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works: Vol II The older I get, the more I swear this becomes the best electronic/ambient album of all time. It's not like the beauty of Eno but is a lot darker, isolating yet melancholy. Very spooky in places.

All in one sitting? Brave. X Not quite! But over the period of a few days it's the only album I've been listening to amongst random shuffle music.

I’ll have to check that album out, you made it sound really interesting.

It’s a great album but be warned it is properly ambient. Only 1 track has a hint of a beat, it’s mostly tones and hums. This is the nicest sounding track on there: X

Bit more acid trance for me this morning on the commute to work. It’s pretty repetitive, but like a lot of techno is good to drive to. The Art Of Acid Trance Compilation. I think this genre is bagged now, time for something else... X

Genre 3: Anarcho-Punk - “punk rock with anarchist themes.” Crass - Penis Envy Although I’m a big punk fan I’ve never listened to Crass before. Don’t know why but I was expecting them to be a bit generic. But this is good. Certainly wasn’t expecting the female vocalist. Chumbawumba - Anarchy X

Genre 7: Ambient techno – “a fusion of techno and ambient music. Tracks may remain still essentially beat-driven, as in the early works of Aphex Twin. The other end of the spectrum is a more atmospheric, layered approach, such as that shown by Biosphere and Gas.“ Boards Of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children. Biosphere - Microgravity. One A.D. - Ambient Compilation. X
