Published: July 06, 2009, 15:09 Cairo: Egyptian Marwa Al Sherbini, who was stabbed to death in a Dresden courtroom in front of her three-year-old son on July 1 was three months pregnant, according to German newspaper Bild. Prosecutors are preparing murder charges against the attacker, whom they described as "a fanatical racist." The man had earlier been fined 750 euros for insulting Al Sherbini at a playground in 2008. She filed charges after he called her a "terrorist," apparently because she was wearing a headscarf. The stabbing happened July 1, just before Al Sherbini was to give her evidence in the case. During the struggle, other bystanders were also injured and police fired a shot. Al Sherbini died in the courtroom. The 28-year-old attacker was overpowered and is now under investigation for manslaughter, a spokesman for the Dresden prosecutor's office said. Meanwhile, Marwa's husband described Monday how he was unable to help his wife fend off the attacker. "Marwa is dead and I couldn't save her," Elwy Okaz, 32, told reporters from the hospital where he is recovering from wounds suffered in the frenzied attack. Okaz suffered serious injuries to his lungs and liver in the July 1 attack, and was also shot in the leg by a policeman who tried to overpower the assailant. "I'm so angry that the policeman's bullet hit me and not the killer," said, Okaz, a researcher at the Max Planck Institute. El Shirbini's 3-year-old son, Mustafa, who witnessed the knife attack, is being looked after by relatives in Germany. The woman's body was flown home to Egypt on Sunday evening so she could be buried in her home town of Alexandria. Source: www.gulfnews.com/world/Germany/10328994.html------------ I'm sure many of us didn't hear about this, since the media didn't really cover it, but a repulsive act of bigotry and hatred took place this past week. A woman was stabbed 18 times in a German court. How could someone be stabbed 18 times in a court of law before someone was able to do something? She was killed in front of her 3 year old son and her husband. Her husband was accidentally shot by a police officer and was stabbed 3 times by the murderer as well. This tragedy started out with verbal prejudice, which many of you think is harmless. This woman was not a terrorist, she was in court fighting for her right to wear her scarf, without discrimination. The hijab is a hot topic in Europe right now, because some people are trying to ban them (Ex: France, Denmark). Muslims should the right to practice their religion just as Christians and Jews do.

The media didn't cover it because it was an ISOLATED case of bigotry. What the media SHOULD be covering is the institutionalized racism a MAJORIY of Muslims adhere to. THAT's news.

every crime against muslims is isolated isn't it?
But when one muslim commits a crime he's representing every breathing muslim?
Is that really your logic?
Calling every Muslim a racist is a defamatory statement, you have no idea what you're talking about

there's nothing more we can do, except for what we already did many times before, to tell him to cut it with the racists comments or fuck off somewhere else. I already stated what I think, he's an alter ego of a regular member who's afraid to say what he really thinks with his regular account and wants to piss people off. kudos, chemist, mission accomplished. the sad thing is, there are people willing to "defend" him, sort of speak.
if you have more concerns, please send an PM to the webmaster regarding his posts.

Wow, I didn't know thechemist was from Dresden. Anyway ya, I heard about it on both Al Jazeera-English and Fox News the day it happened. No one seems to have an answer as to how she could be stabbed so many times other than the guy must have been really fast and using a little prison-style shank weapon that lends itself to multiple fast attacks. But as for religious discrimination - I'll admit that I don't know as much as I would like to about Islam, but isn't the hijab and burka a culture-based choice and not something dictated by the religion? Before you flame me, know this - I think a person should be free to wear whatever the hell they want in public while on their own free time, but while on the job or at school I also believe a company or a school board should be able to dictate a required uniform. And that goes for telling Christians and jews to put away the WWJD bracelets and Star of David necklaces etc. A headscarf is reasonable, but the burka is not for many businesses and schools. For this reason I don't support the complete ban on them in France or anywhere else but I do support the right of the business or school to set rules for their employees/students.

Baby murdering? He killed a woman. It doesn't matter that she was pregnant. That's just a group of cells growing in her. More like a tumor than a baby.
And OF COURSE the Burka is a cultural choice. What woman wouldn't want to cover herself from head to toe in a black blanket in the desert in the summer. But the women we're talking about are living in France. No husband would force his wife dress in a way she doesn't want to in a free western country.
And you all think you're so smart.

Only the Catholic church has the deep pockets to make an industry out of it.

So are Muslims, Jews, Buddists, Pagans, atheists and every other religion in the world has their share. What a dickhead statement. Did you think you "got me" with that one? Moron.

Did you think you "got me" with that one? Moron. i think i got it now. muslims exclusively supress women but sexual abuse of children (and as we know now "the Catholic church has the deep pockets to make an industry out of it") is universal? i must have missed the feminine pope.

Let's be a LITTLE bit honest here. The catholic church doesn't have a monpoly on paedophelia. It's pretty universal. Any concentration on diddling little boys rests purely in he clergy. Western nations don't have institutionalized laws advocating child sex.
Islam has has a pretty poor record on the rights of women: - They can't drive in Saudi Arabia. - In a few nations they can't go outside without a head scarf for fear of the religious police. - Physical abuse is not rare. - Raped women going to jail for fornication. - A man can divorce his wife and throw her out onto the street with no posessions on a whim. - It's allright there in Islamic law law. Look it up.
And no, I don't have sources. But you know I'm right. Comparing the catholic clergy's kiddie porn problem with institutionalized female slavery in Islamic nations is just plain innacurate.
And I misspoke on the "deep pockets of the catholic church". I meant to say that because of those deep pockets, SUING the catholic church has become an industry.
