They sound nothing alike, lets not get too carried away with how much of a "departure" falling down is. Tomorrow never knows is still in an entirely different league even 42 years after the fact

Tomorrow Never Knows blows Falling Down out of the water.
Falling Down does rip off the drums (again), but it's hardly psychedelic.

Not wrong just, um, expressing my opinion.
As much as I love Oasis, they can't do psychedelic.
Putting a mellotron or some some fake 'Indian sounding instruments' on something doesn't make it psychedelic (Who Feels Love, Go Let It Out, Probably All In The Mind etc).
Tomorrow Never Knows is art, Falling Down is a bad xerox.
But each to his own I guess.

Oasis were never and will never be innovators. Noel writes competent rock songs, sometimes brilliant rock songs. That's why some of the songs, with heavy production, always come off sounding hollow and uninspired.
DLBIA, CS. Very basic songs with great melodies.
The band is really trying to find where to go with their sound. I don't want to say struggling, but we'll see with this new album.

And it's more than just the mellotron and hyponizing drum beat...Just listen to the structure of Noel's vocals...that's as psychedelic as it gets. It's very cut/mashed up, very processed with lots of echo and delay...I mean it doesn't get much more psychedelic than that for Oasis. Also, I wasn't saying Falling Down is BETTER than Tomorrow Never Knows. I was simply saying Falling Down reminded me of it

There's no need to get defensive.
In my opinion, Tomorrow Never Knows shits all over Falling Down from a great height.
Falling Down is only cosmetically psychedelic, in the same way as the songs I listed earlier.
Tomorrow Never Knows is a masterpiece.
Anyway, this is degenerating into "Worst. Episode. Ever" territory. See ya!

i thought the same.
drum beat is pretty similar. both songs seem to revolve around one root chord throughout (falling down seems to be based around F#m).
both tunes are great.

I'm starting to think half of the people who say "it sounds like Tomorrow Never Knows" haven't even heard that tune before.

the only thing similar is the beat, and that a starkey is playing it.

Tomorrow Never Knows is art, Falling Down is a bad xerox. But each to his own I guess. Interesting comment, because Liam Gallagher was actually the first one to point this out. Back in 2000 when SOTSOG came out, he noted that people - fans like you, the media, etc. - were relentlessly comparing the band to the Beatles. And he said - "it's not the Beatles, it's just a fuckin' mellotron". They never really claimed to be psychedelic and never said they put instruments into their music to be like The Beatles, but some people have got it in their heads that it must be the case...even though they can't back it up. By the way, since you seem to know what is NOT psychedelic, can you tell us what is? Since Tomorrow Never Knows includes all those things you tell us do NOT make Oasis psychedelic, like "fake sounding Indian instruments" and "mellotrons"? Should Noel learn sitar? Oh wait the Beatles have already done that, so that wouldn't be right.
