For starters most people outside the oasis camp don't like the Gallaghers. Secondly the content of the song is 'the big I am' and no one outside the oasis camp will be happy for Noel that he's got the Shock of the Lighting (or inspired in the studio) And the Lyrics are, lets be honest, laughable. Noel is at he's most dangeously bad when he is assuming he's a genius. Why couldn't they have just gone with Falling Down? ? That is a tune!!

I like the lyrics of THE SHOCK OF LIGHTNING, they're fine.. fun & rock'n'roll.. Lyrics for Noel are " just " another instruments.. like a guitar is, and he's pretty brillant using words as a " guitar ".
I don't expect (and I don't want) him to be a social analyst. I already got MY Springsteen for that.. I don't expect (and I don't want) him to be a mysterious poet. I already got MY Dylan for that...
Noel has done a very good job, IMO, with THE SHOCK OF THE LIGHTNING...
Rock on..

The lyrics aren't too bad! Not his best, but not laughable either.
At least he's doesn't rhyme gibberish all the time and most of his songs have meaning, unlike RHCP.....(yes, RHCP have a few good lyrics too, but most of their songs are just nonsensical rhymes, and for that RHCP should get stick, yet they dont)

I don't know why critics have to analyze the lyrics and everything. It sounds amazing, and the lyrics just fit. I'd like to see them to better

Hopefully enough time has passed so people can start thinking sensibly about the song.
It's not bad, its not great. It's oasis-by-the-numbers, with slightly different production. A song that's sorely lacking a chorus (i know, i know...its the 'groove'. whatever), the song will not win over any non-oasis fans. I don't want to hear your stories of my sister's brother's girlfriend who really liked the song.
Its a rock song. An Oasis rock song. It'll get some spins. It won't be panned. It'll be tolerated for a few weeks. Just like Lyla.

Has Noel not clearly stated in the past that he doesn't give a fuck about the lyrics?

With due respect of course, does anyone else feel like smacking the next person who says "Oasis by Numbers" with a shovel? We complain and complain that they don't do songs as good as the first 3 albums, and when they do make one, we just say it sounds the same.

I’m sure it’s not as good as all the hit songs the negative critics have written.

This song isn't as good as the great songs on the first three albums. Apart from its tempo, it has more in common with Lyla and THT than, let's say, Supersonic and Some Might Say.

I disagree here a little bit, I think that the tempo, read ENERGY, is what's been missing from oasis since be here now. The problem is that the only thing that sets Lyla and The Hindu Times apart from Supersonic and Some Might Say, is the lack of energy in the songs. This song has as much passion and energy about it as Morning Glory, And Supersonic, and (whisper it) Aquiesece. Plus Liam's Vocals. He's singing this like he actually want's to sing it now. Which is beautiful.

I think what's separates TSOTL from Supersonic isn't energy (Supersonic has a fairly low tempo) but an amazing chorus. Yes, TSOTL has more energy than THT and Lyla, but that alone doesn't make it automatically as good as their earlier stuff (but it does make it better than THT and Lyla).
There's just something about 'I need to be myself, I can't be no-one else ...' great swagger (or energy, if you prefer), great melody. TSOTL doesn't hold a candle to it.

You don't hear people talking all this shit about shakermaker, which is turd compared to this new song. Its better than a lot of the singles they've released in the last couple of years. Energy, power and a great Liam vocal. Why dont you enjoy it for what it is.
