''So get ready to hear proclamations of their "best album since 'Definitely Maybe'". Oasis are about to release a new record, new single, new look and all the usual hype will accompany it. Their new single 'The Shock of The Lightning' is now being played on radio. You'll not be surprised to hear it's not very good. You can hear 'The Shock of The Lightning' here.
Noel Gallagher says it was written in 10 minutes. It sounds like it, especially the awful awful lyrics. Here's a sample "Love is a litany/ A magical mystery". Or how about "I got my feet on the street/ But I can't help flying". Wait, wait, there's more. Noel seems to have been watching 'Back To The Future' lately. Try this: "there is a time machine/ Up on the silver screen".
There's the argument that Oasis should be taken for who they are and what they do. They're not Radiohead. They're not progressive in any way. They're not even Coldplay, but surely they could have come up with something better than this?
On a daily basis, demos, EP's, etc from new bands flood into my postbox and a good few are better than this offering from Oasis. Yeah it's faster than their normal pacing. It's re-injected the punky, Sex Pistols element which b-sides like 'Fade In/Out' had. Indeed it sounds like a lesser b-side from 1994/ 96-era Oasis.
The production too is better and much closer to capturing the band's energy, ala their first two albums with Liam's vocal deeper in the mix than on more recent records.
Of late his sneer has been pushed to the fore, covering everything else. There's also a nice vocal moment when Liam says the title for the first time in the tune. It's not a short snappy song either (as the title might suggest) with the album version coming in at nearly five minutes.
It should sound good live, but it's not a good song. As far as Oasis comeback singles go it's up there with 'The Hindu Times'. Indeed this could be their worst comeback single yet....nah, 'The Hindu Times' was pretty poor wasn't it? (I digress, I must have blocked out 'Go Let It Out'). What do you think?
Steve Cummins''
The fact he thinks go let it out and THT are shit obviously means hes a fag.

People so woefully uninformed have no business writing one off reviews like this. If the song charts well, look for this rag to burry the review and post another by a different writer praising it.

it is obvious that he doesn't like Oasis. so why should it be a shock that he doesn't like their new song.
i really don't like the idea of music reviews... opinion on art has never been objective. the appeal of art has been and always will be subjective. the whole notion of a music review is a bit absurd to me.
i think the lyrics are actually really cool, and i am an active songwriter. but what does that prove? it is subjective. it is my opinion. i just really find it absurd when someone tries to push their own opinion and present it as objective fact.

I appologise for all the idiots in my country. But you should realise Hot Press=Rolling Stones Irish cousin. Big into rubbish like the Thing Things, MGMT and a huge political and current events feature in their magazine. Oasis aren't an "intelligent" band (a la Radiohead, Coldplay) so they would be very low on Hot Press's list of whats good (fucking students). They make NME look like a quality journalistic establishment.

I like the Hindu Times!
P.S Noels crappy lyrics have left TSOTL wide open to attacks like this though.

Noel's lyrics have never been sophisticated. but at least you know he is being honest and you can tell what he is writing about most the time... i find bands like radiohead annoying because you never know what the heck he is singing about...

TSOTL is not great. Even the people on these boards who are praising it silently think so aswell I think.

I think the lyrics are solid. "My head's in the clouds but at least I'm tryin'. I'm out of control but I'm tied up tight". Better than "the sink is full of fishes, she's got dirty dishes on the brain". Not that I don't like Some Might Say. I’m all for people’s right to their own opinion, but this guy is an ass.

TSOTL is not great. Even the people on these boards who are praising it silently think so aswell I think. not in my case. I really like the song, and i think it's great BECAUSE of its direct and simplistic stlye, not IN SPITE of that.

this is more of a review of Oasis than the song. He's trashing how the band approaches music. "it's faster paced."...woa, how descriptive. "awful lyrics"... from reading that I know exactly why he thinks so...hack journalist.

I like it, really, but is not a great thing for me that the song follow the line of THT and lyla, a bit of R'N'RS and It's getting better man... is a new tune but is something I've heard before.

He obviously has something against Oasis, so I don't value his opinion. Frankly, reviews are just that - an opinion - which I can find from anyone on the street. I like Oasis, he doesn't. Fuck him.

pretty harsh, even the pitchforkmedia one was more positive than that TSOTL is not great. Even the people on these boards who are praising it silently think so aswell I think. are you serious? or just an idiot? don't worry bout the second question, it'd be answered after the first.

Let's be honest; the lyrics are piss-poor.
However, one or two of his quotes - and the fact that this c*nt doesn't know his album tracks from his B-sides - show that he's clearly no more than another Radiohead apologist with no interest in Oasis beyond regurgitating the same old hackneyed, cliched shite and attempting to pass it off as journalism.
