Listening to both of these songs is like sitting through a nil nil draw. Incredibly bland no shots on goal at all. Where is the fire? Where is the swagger? I've listened to both a dozen times wanting to like them but TSOL is a half arsed version of Put Yer Money Where Your Mouth Is. And Falling Down is just kind of there. I give both a 6/10.

We're starting to look at "better than BHN" territory. Falling Down and TSOTL are great great songs that follow the BHN mantra, but done much better. If we continue on at this rate, DOYS should be able to break the consensual mould of DM-WTSMG-BHN and make it DM-WTSMG-DOYS.....

There is no way SOTL will be a great great song...it's half inspiration half laziness (the lyrics with time and mine in the chorus are so grating and awful. Falling Down is just amazing, whatever about some sections of the music, each melody is absolutely superb. And as much as i hate BHN, DOYS i think will not replace it. Hell SOTSOG should be the third best album by consensus but alas. I'm glad the brashness and attitude has returned, but it seems like that and groove don't go hand in hand together unfortunately.

Did you seriously ask "where is the swagger?" Go play in traffic. TSOTL has the most swagger since BHN, and it pisses all over the other "hard rockers" of the past few albums (better than KTDA, Lyla, THT, GLIO, etc)' While Falling Down fits the BHN mould too, and has a great deep sound to it, with a wonderful chorus, and spooky and chilling melody. If you don't like either of these 2 songs, then you're not going to like the new album (and it begs the question how you can possible like HC and DBTT if you don't like these 2 songs), and if that's the case, please kindly fuck off of the OASIS FORUM. cheers.

I prefer Falling down just because I like listening to it more than TSOTL. If I was going to break it down though. I'd have to say it's because Falling down is new and fresh and TSOTL is ANOTHER up and at em mission statement of a song. But at least it's truely rocking this time

Can't compare really as they're two complete opposite ends of the spectrum.
Falling Down - A great, trancey ballad which for the record sounds fuck all like Coldplay. The lyrics are spot on, the melody is addictive, the vocals are great I reckon, not a note out of place, but it all feels a bit "Where is this song going?"
Shock of the Lightning - Superb. I think it's in their top 10 ever. Again a great melody, Liam's on top form here and the guitars are mental. The drummings mental. I personally want Tony McCarrol back. He was shit, but he was right. People could complain about the lyrics, but at the end of the day, he's probably just going for his old method of writing "Any old shit that rhymes really". Again, it feels like it has a huge build up but doesn't go anywhere which is quite frustrating. But I love it. That leaves us wanting for more.

While Falling Down fits the BHN mould too, I completely fail to see this. Falling Down is absolutely nothing like Be Here Now, yet you keep saying that. Falling Down would sound right at home on SOTSOG if anything. TSOTL sounds more BHN than Falling Down.

Falling down is genious and so is the shock of the lightning. Two totally different songs, it depends what type of Oasis songs you prefer. Do you prefer masterplan (Then you'll say FD) or do you prefer Rock N Roll Star (Then You'll say TSOTL) Ive gotta say I love to Have it large so im gonna go for the Shock of the lighning all the way!!!!!!!!
I will say one more thing, whatever anyones opinion on these two songs this album will be huge and every true oasis fan's gonna fuckin love it man!!!!!

Falling Down was an immediate 8 - maybe 9 - out of 10. It's a fantastic tune.
The Shock Of The Lightning will be lucky if it ever creeps beyond a 7.

Both seem to be fine songs, but it's too early to know just how good they are.

Shock is an instant classic. Falling down is perfectly good aswell Both better than anything (except TIOBI) from the last 3 albums.
SOTL gets better each listen. Liams voice again sounds like his own - rather than some half arsed John Lennon impression

I like The Shock Of The Lightning a lot better, finally an Oasis song with feedback, a pick scrape, full distortion on the guitars, there is a fuckin drum solo in it for cryin out loud and just a fuckin balls out rocker. But I also really like Falling Down, this one is just better. Both piss all over every song from their last 3 albums.

i mean, Where Did It All Go Wrong, PYMWYMI, Go Let It Out and Gas Panic are ok songs at best, but songs like Roll It Over, Who Feels Love, and Little James are some of the most boring songs ive ever heard, and especially coming from a band like Oasis, its a very weak album imo

Who Feels Love? is one of my favourite Oasis songs. There's just something about the tune, the lyrics, that resonates with me on a personal level. And Gas Panic! is up there with their best work. Everything about it is fantastic.
For me it's genuinely their third best album. Behind the big two.

Horrible comparison. Digsy's Diner happens to be a kickass tune.
I prefer Falling Down to TSOTL. TSOTL is great, classic opening, just leaves you stunned. Although Falling Down is something interesting, definitely something you don't expect from Oasis. And right now, that is holding my attention over something that seems rather perfunctory of Oasis to do; release a typical lead single of theirs. (but a good one nevertheless)

Falling Down by far. TSOTL seems very half ass to me. I know Noel said it's the demo, but if you don't have a complete chorus, then don't put out the friggin demo...

Standing on the shoulder of giants had a couple of good tunes, but imo it's not half as good as DBTT, DBTT is an awesome album AWESOME! lots of great tunes, possibly more "good" tunes than Be Here Now, having said that BHN great songs, were just straight up EPIC so... TSOTL is a great song, i like it a lot, Falling down is just meh...
