Excellent review, ta. I think the album WILL be really good, but after reading I'm dubious about Soldier On in particular, its referred to as a 'mantra', I really hope its not more two-chord repetitive crap a la Better Man.

I can't wait to here The Turning. The reviewer said it is like my big mouth but 100 times better. I think that my big mouth is highly underrated and is one of my favorite songs.

I get the feeling that everyone who has heard "high horse lady" doesnt really know what to think of it because its so different. Im excited to hear it for that reason alone

I knew this at one point, but I am getting mixed up....
who sings the Turning.... the reviewer said The Turning sounded like My Big Mouth, but if Noel is singing, that will be odd...

This review doesn't really mesh with the official information we already have... How does The Zombies "Time Of The Season" drumbeat (per NME) translate into "My Big Mouth"? They also don't give any information that isn't vague or already out there...

after reading I'm dubious about Soldier On in particular, its referred to as a 'mantra', I really hope its not more two-chord repetitive crap a la Better Man. CS got panned upon it's release*, but it's considdered one of their best songs. You haven't even heard the song, so I wouldn't worry yet... If anything, this encourages me that it'll be good b/c they say it aims for epic, swaggering closer CS-type song. Even if it were to just be average, the fact that it aims for this style encourages me. We haven't had an epic closer since RIO. *don't actually know if this is true, but Noel said it in the STC docu, so I assume it's true ;D

Morning Glory was passed off as average on release. 3/5 from the NME, etc.
And then it became fuck-all huge.
The most interesting part of the review is the excitement for Ain't Got Nothing.

yeah i gotta agree now it seems that all of Liam's song have been praised. I don't care about reviews in this day in age. MG got average reviews, BHN got good reviews then backlash, SOTSOG got panned, HC was a supposed "return to form" but a lot of us think its weak. A review won't change my mind of an album though they are fun to read

As I read all of these reviews (some real, some fake I suppose) the most encouraging thing is that each reviewer seems to like a different clutch of songs. The only consistent thing seems to be that the album on the whole is good - which is VERY encouraging. Reviews don't matter, but I still believe that this album will be something very special indeed.

This is how I see the song ratings based off of their descriptions (and from what we know after hearing TSOTL and FD)
Bag It Up: 7/10 ("underwhelming opener")
The Turning: 9/10
Waiting For The Rapture: 10/10
The Shock Of The Lightning: 9/10 (seems to be general consensus)
I'm Outta Time: 6/10 (other reviews said it was really good though....)
(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady: 7/10
Falling Down: 8/10 (seems to be general consensus)
To Be Where There's Life: 9/10
Ain't Got Nothin': 8/10 (has to be better than the demo then...?)
The Nature Of Reality: 7/10
Soldier On: 7/10
Average Score: 87/110 = ~80%
Not a bad review. Again, it's just my interpretation....

here is another one from adm on Stop The Clocks. The Album------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I should make it very clear that I only heard the album once, and it was over a PA that didn't deliver in the way I hoped and with people talking all over it. I fully expect half my initial impressions to change over the next few months. Bag It UpIt's not an obvious choice for an album opener, at least not initially, but it's a heavy one and it definitely gives an early impression of how the album's going to sound. It doesn't sound like Oasis. I think it said something along the lines of "Got all my heebie-jeebies in a little bag". On first impressions I preferred it to Turn Up The Sun, but I don't see that being a popular opinion. The TurningI remember very little about this, aside from Liam sounding absolutely evil and it being another real rock tune. It was better than Bag It Up. Waiting For The RaptureLyrically it was a bit like The Importance of Being Idle's cooler, pilled-up brother, over a heavy White Stripes-sounding riff and more pounding drums. Some of the lyrics were something along the lines of "She told me her name/I forgot it all/Because I was in a trance", or somethng vaguely similar. Probably the best track so far. The Shock of the Lightning
Obviously you've all heard it already. I love it, although I think it's the weakest track of the first half. I'm Outta TimeThe verse begins with some slightly questionable lyrics, along the lines of Liam's previous toys/noise efforts, but the chorus is easily his finest songwriting accomplishment: "If I ever fall Would you be there to applaud? Or would you hide behind a wall? Even if I go In my heart you will glow 'Cos that's where you belong" It's something like that, and Liam's voice and the melody are absolutely beautiful. It moves into a solo, with a Lennon voice sample, and Liam comes back repeating "I'm outta time". The best song on the album, for me. (Get Off Your) High Horse LadyJust a very strange song. Ends with the sound of horses walking, but unfortunately it's just their feet and there's no 'neeeiiiigh'ing. It grew on me as it went along. Falling DownAgain, you've heard it. Second best on the album. To Be Where There's LifeI only have vague recollections of this, largely that it wasn't very good. Had a good dancey beat though. The line "Dig out your soul" was in there somewhere. I'm disappointed because I'm a big fan of A Bell Will Ring. Ain't Got NothingA tarted-up version of the demo, with a much better vocal and a few slight lyrical changes: "Out on bail To unveil Here's a song Sing along" "You got nothin' for me any more I got nothin' for you" The Nature of RealityThe opening line is "The nature of reality", beyond that I remember little apart from thinking it was very poor. On first impression, comfortably the worst on the album. Soldier OnSeemed a bit of a non-event. I remember very little of it. I think this album is going to alienate a lot of people. Barring I'm Outta Time, there's not a lot to sing along to. Certainly for the first half, it's the album I desperately wanted Oasis to make, but I doubt the more casual fans wanted it. It's loud, heavy, sleazy rock n' roll. The second half is disappointing. stoptheclocks.org/showthread.php?t=5362&page=1

To Ashleigh: You went to this rehearsal gig right? Is the album better than DBTT?
Also, Andy Bell plays a lot of piano in it, is the piano's a major feature in the songs?
I know Noel sings two songs (Waiting For Rapture and FD), does he sing anymore?
On initial reaction, where does the album rate on the Oasis backcatalogue?
P.S. Initial reactions may not be good, but I actually think the album will be a grower. Definitley Maybe was a grower on me (never got to me straight away) but now it's one of my favourite albums, unlike Be Here Now which hit me instantly but wore off me and is probably my least favourite Oasis album along with HC.

nice reviews, sounds like what Noel said on Radio 6 is spot on, the album being in 2 halves. the first half sounds the best with the rockier songs
hopefully the last few will be growers once they are heard properly

The gem and andy filler is to be expected.
I really just want a couple great songs, and it seems Liam's I'M OUTTA TIME will deliver. It was deemed single worthy, so that's a great sign.
A bit discouraged that the guy who heard the album said FALLING DOWN was the second best track.

It's my favourite, but at the end of the day it's just an acoustic ditty that could do with bulking up.
