NBC Sports will be a part of hockey history on New Year's Day when it broadcasts the NHL Winter Classic, the National Hockey League’s first regular-season outdoor game in the United States on Tuesday, January 1 at 1 p.m. EST. The game between the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins will by played at Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the NFL's Buffalo Bills, and features several of the game’s brightest young stars, including Penguins center Sidney Crosby and Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller.
NBC's live coverage will be hosted by Bob Costas, joined by NBC's hockey broadcast team of "Doc" Emrick, Eddie Olczyk and Mike Milbury, and produced by Sam Flood, who grew up playing hockey on the ponds of suburban Boston. “NBC Sports is delighted to bring this unique event to hockey fans in the U.S.," said Ken Schanzer, President, NBC Sports. "It promises to be a memorable New Year's Day.”
Attendance at the contest is expected to surpass the NHL single-game record, when the Montreal Canadians and Edmonton Oilers drew 57,167 to The Heritage Classic. The Ralph Wilson Stadium capacity exceeds 73,000.
“Many of our players have great memories of playing outdoors when they were growing up, “said NHL Commissionary Gary Bettman. “This game provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase our great players, honor hockey’s heritage and ring in the New Year with the best fans in sports.”

nobody south of the mason-dixon line anyway....besides FOOTBALL ROCKS nah, it's all about hockey and soccer (the real football). these are two great sports, Anyone can play and be great. In NFL you have to have all the attribitues for your position, in basketball you have to be tall. In ice hockey or football you can be anyone! Take a midfielder for example, you can have a fat lazy bastard who can pick out a player anywhere on the pitch or or a stick of a lad who runs box to box for ninety minutes. of course theres exceptions to the rules, but in general thats the way it is
