two major differences, number one the kinks are the best band ever. number two, probably 3/4 of the best of's that are out under the kinks name came out before the advent of the mp3.

Like Noel said, he wanted to make a 1 disc greatest hits, so I reckon, since it is 2 discs, he wants to put the least amount of songs.
...Or something, I dunno.

if the kinks can get 24 songs on one cd, maybe it could have been just the one disc.

1 disc, 2 discs, who gives a shit? You'll only get 80 minutes on 1 disc, and there's almost 90 minutes in the 18 songs on STC. It's clearly obvious that it's been mapped out to be like an Oasis gig, and Oasis gig are typically around 90 minutes long with around 18 songs.

I would've gone for this: DISC 1: 01. Rock 'N' Roll Star 02. Acquiesce 03. Stand By Me 04. Don't Look Back In Anger 05. Songbird 06. D'You Know What I Mean? 07. Cigarettes & Alcohol 08. Let's All Make Believe 09. Talk Tonight 10. Cast No Shadow 11. The Hindu Times 12. Slide Away DISC 2: 01. Whatever 02. Go Let It Out 03. Supersonic 04. Wonderwall 05. The Importance Of Being Idle 06. Some Might Say 07. Stop Crying Your Heart Out 08. Half The World Away 09. All Around The World 10. Live Forever 11. The Masterplan 12. Champagne Supernova Is only 12 songs per disc, and a better overview I reckon. Get a few more newer tracks on there.

the ultimate collection, two disc.......disc one: 24 tracks, disc two: 20. Well you've ended your argument before you've started - Ultimate Collection, not a Greatest Hits, so the two shouldn't be compared. Disc One of that collection is essentially a greatest hits (with a few turkeys that should've been left off), with Disc Two being mainly a collection of b-sides and rarities.

my point was the ammount of material they managed to get onto one cd. All that means is that the Kinks had a load of short songs.
