Liverpool won the FA Youth Cup after beating Manchester United 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out at the end of the second leg at Old Trafford. Robbie Threlfall had scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute, volleying in from just inside the box to make the aggregate score 2-2.
That took the match into extra-time, but neither side could find a winner.
Sam Hewson blasted United's fifth penalty over the bar to ensure holders Liverpool retained their trophy.
And Liverpool were good value for their success after playing the better football throughout.
The Anfield youngsters twice hit the post - first when Craig Lindfield's shot was tipped on to the upright by keeper Ron-Robert Zieler and then in extra-time when Lindfield's angled drive crashed against the woodwork.
United's best two chances fell to Febian Brandy, who finished weakly when through on goal in the second half of normal time and had an acrobatic effort well saved late on in extra-time.
Both sides were clearly tired at the end and the trophy was decided on penalties for only the second time in the tournament's 55-year history.

It was also the first time that any club has retained the title

Congratulations to LIverpool. Here's hoping the first team can pull things around against Chelsea and get to the Champions League final.
