What number of band members seems to work best in your mind.
3 (Cream, Rush, The Police, The Jimi Hendrix Experience)
4 (The Beatles, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Jet, The Who, Metallica, Van Halen)
5 (Oasis, Guns n' Roses, Rolling Stones, The Hives, AC/DC)
or another number be it higher (in the case of a band like Earth, Wind and Fire) or lower (in the case of The White Stripes)

when you think of a band, you usually think of:
a) vocals, guitar, bass, drums
or:
b) rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, drums (vocals done usually by a guitarist)

i usually play keys when a part is needed, and the other guitarist is in it alone. (my band has two lead guitars- me and him, think of the allman brothers)

my band, kilroy, has five members: Lead guitar(me), rhythm, bass, drums, and vocals... however i play keyboards and will be learning mandolin, so that way we can add that stuff to songs and just have the one guitar- adds variety without having a single person play keyboards when obviously not every song will have keyboards in it. Kind of a flexible lineup, i like it.

I dont think it matters how many band members you have. You could have 1 member or 27 if you wanted.

4 me the smaller the better.. not too small tho
3 is too small... but doesnt mean u cant b famous... Nirvana, Silverchair, etc
5 = oasis... etc
But i like 4... coz its easier in the long term. some band members like to fool around n dont hav the commitment.... n sometimes personal emotions intervene
so i like 4 (all shud play intstrument tho)
