As of late I've tried putting a band together and I've had nothing but frustrations. Things like VH1 and all make it look so easy. My major bane has been finding a drummer who'll commit. If not that, then finding a bassist. I eventually took up bass (I can play "Supersonic", "Seven Nation Army", "All Day And All The Night", "Don't Go Away", and "God Save The Queen") to solve that problem but if not not one thing, it's another with schedules, material to play, etc. I was hoping to do something kinda old school punk like The Clash or something a bit more pop like Oasis. But everyone today wants to be the next Metallica, Simple Plan, or Limp Dick... I mean Bizkit. Is it so wrong to want to follow in the footsteps of such great men as John Lennon, Joe Strummer, Axl Rose, Noel and Liam Gallagher, Ray Davies, Paul Weller, Johnny Rotten, Pete Townshend, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Mick Jones, Dave Vanian, Slash, Roger Daltrey, Jack Bruce, Bob Dylan, or Jim Morrison? Is it so wrong to want to start a band with music that means something? Everyone I see is trying to be the next Nirvana. They were a great band but there will never be another Kurt Cobain, just like there will never be another Jimi Hendrix. Everyone wants to be disillusined while I try to bring hope. It's almost as if everyone wants to be depressed. Part of me wants to give up on starting a band all together but a part of me wants to soldier on. God, John Lennon made it look so easy.

GOOD LUCK MATE! Can imagine it being a bastard trying to get a band going! Like you said, youve either got to sing about wanting to die, or you've got to be a pretty boy/girl with no talent at all!

Actually, no I'm not. Those guys all inspired me but I'm not trying to be just like them. I'm trying to just get a band together that has music that stands for something apart from "Oh, I'm not loved" and "I'm so disillusioned". These guys I say are Kurt Cobain wannabes are guys I've seen rip off Nirvana chords, trying to be self-destructive as they can be, try to look like Nirvana, and basically re-write "Smells Like Teen Spirit" a hundred different ways. I have not done any of the afore mentioned stuff. I admire guys like Noel Gallagher and Joe Strummer but I don't try to plagerize their work.

I dont think drums are that expensive ive just bought a second hand kit for £150 which dont sound to bad compared to guitars (ive got a Rickenbacker 330, Les Paul and a Jaguar) there quite reasonably priced to say how much of it there is

What makes you so sure people aren't trying to walk in the foot steps of Cobain/Hendrix just as you are of Weller, Rotten and Townshend? Maybe you should be more open to new material. Just a thought

it's hard for my band to do anything, since everyone's so busy, especially with school. i'm trying to bring class and fun back to the music industry. hey, one band can't change the whole industry, unless your names are john, paul, george, and richard.

In the last 4 years ive been in 4 bands, basically i joined 3 bands and all they wanted to do was shitty american rock covers and i kept leaving them. Its a fucking pain in the arse trying to get bands going who are all into the same kinna thing and you are very lucky if you find 4/5 people all into the same kinna thing. But you have to keep going, i was all for jacking in music at the end until i finally got lucky and found 4 other guys who i think are exactly spot on and we are about to rule the world.
