im trying to sort out my old pc and well its in a bit of a mess, its basicaly got nothing installed on it and im trying to re-install windows on it but it wont let me it says "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer" and i dont have any of the original set up discs for the computer or even know what the hard drive is, can i do anything to sort it out short of paying out of money to have it fixed?

do you know if your hard drive is a SCSI ?
make sure the hard drive is properly connected on the inside (power cable and data cable - either IDE or SATA). if you hear it making noises then it should be connected.
then try going into BIOS at startup to see if that detects any sort of hard drives.

i checked the cables and one was loose, its working now and im installing xp, hopefully it will work fine, thanks for the advice
