Hi
iam thinking of buying a new pc but dont have a clue what spec to go for. I talked to some monkey in PC World and it seemed like he was just trying to flog me the most expensive PC on the market.
I havent got the biggest budget about £500. Can anyone help me cos i havent got a clue.
Thanx in advance

I guess it all depends on what you'll use the computer for? Is it just for general use?

James my advice would be for you to avoid a big store like PC World. Go to a small independent store and tell them what you need it for and how much you can spend. They will build one to your specification. If you buy one from PC World, they will sell you some mass produced overpriced thing which is way overpriced and comes with 'free' things like a printer or digi camera.

Thanx for the replies, the main uses for it will be downloading music and storing music as well as a bit of gaming.

I've got these magazines that give specifications for specific things, including media centres (like downloading stuff etc) and gaming systems. I can put the pages on here if you want, you can have a look and have a rough idea of whats recommended. Its real good - using it for my ICT unit work.

having lots and lots of RAM isnt necessarily a priority. again, it depends what your gonna use the machine for. if you have anywhere between 750MB - 1GB of RAM in there, it should be more than adequate for most of the latest games and applications. probably dont even need that much for most things.
