OK mate, in control panel click 'peformance & maintenance' then 'system' then 'hardware' then 'device manager'.
when your in there youll see a list of all the devices on your pc and they should be listed under the name of the computer, somthing like 'doms computer' or whatever you called it when you set it up. right-click that and choose 'scan for hardwear changes'.
follow that? ;D

done that, 2 root hub USB things come up but no metion if the thing i got plugged in

and do you only have 2 usb ports on the pc? sometimes when windows starts up it doesnt recognise every port, so if you scan for hardwear changes it should re-install the port automatically.
