Oasis fail to dazzle at Glastonbury
OASIS headlined the Pyramid Stage of Glastonbury on Friday - but the reaction to their 70 minute set was decidedly mixed.
Popular hits including Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova and Supersonic brought the end of the first day of the festival to a buzzing climax.
But the Gallagher brothers failed to meet the high expectations of many eager fans. Despite delivering a series of crowd pleasers, mainly from their album Definitely Maybe, their performance was criticised by fans as lacking passion and originality.
Festival founder Michael Eavis said the performance did not live up to his expectations.
He said: "I'm an Oasis fan. I thought it was a good set but the two of them looked a bit grumpy and didn't talk to the audience at all. In that sense I was a bit disappointed."
Meanwhile Scissor Sisters’ singer Ana Matronic was also left unimpressed, reportedly labelling the rockers "a tribute act to themselves."
But Noel Gallagher told Radio One that “it was pretty good. I don't know though, cos my manager's not here and I trust his judgement more than anyone and he's not here but I think it was pretty good.”<br> However, ex-Beatles drummer Ringo Starr's son, Zak Starkey, impressed fans with his exciting performance.
In their only major festival appearance this year, Liam, who wore a long white coat with a feather collar, dedicated Stop Crying Your Heart Out to the England football team.
