There are rumours about a new Stephen King's IT movie. It would be a remake because there is already a TV-movie made, based on the novel.
The story is about a killing clown, terrorizing a city called Derry. He kills kids and comes back every 26/27 year. The first movie was brought out in 1990 and Tim Curry had the main role, playing Pennywise the Clown. One of the actors commited suicide last year, Jonathan Brandis. The film was nice, but according to Stephen King, press and fans the movie and book are very different. Many people slaughted especially the end, which was unrealistic. So there is much need to make a proper version.
Have you ever seen the movie and would you like to see a new version?
I'd like it because it's the best novel ever written by the master Stephen King. Just like the Shining, it deserves a new chance!

Did anyone read or see Cujo? The book was amazing but the movie made me cringe in disgust...

King is one of my fave authors. I love his books but every film Ive seen based on one of his books has been weak. a lot of people say similar things but i think people forget just how many films have been based on Stephen King books - The Shawshank Redemption, Carrie, Stand By Me, Misery, Dolores Clairborne, The Shining all of those are classics. the movies which tend to flop were the TV mini-series' like IT and the B movies like Firestarter, Pet Semetary etc. There have been a lot of dodgy films based on his books but also some great ones. I love the Shining and of course it isnt exactly true to the book, it is better in some ways. the ending for one is better imo - why does stephen king end half his stories with giant explosions? Plus Jack is in it I'd love to see another IT movie and i liked the original - mainly because Tim Curry was scary as fuck!!! the ending was rubbish though it was woeful actually. god such a let down. broke the golden rule of horror - never show the big bad guy at the end. always leave it to the imagination

The part with the young kids was great. Though compared to the book, the director didn'nt include essential scenes in the book. It became worser near the end, where the story loses direction and the spiderpart makes me laugh. Hopefully they get Tim Curry again, because he is absolutely great. He performed really well as Pennywise.
A remake can be better than the first movie, just look at the newer version of The Shining and the older version from Stanley Kubrick.

Kubrick's films are so unique and brilliant they are almost impossible to improve upon. remaking a Kubrick movie would be madness for any director - changing the films would remove the uniqueness and vision that makes them so great in the first place. althought the newer version of the shining is much more true to the novel, i dont think it is in the same league in terms of films, as Kubrick's

Reading the book with the characters of the movie in mind is absolutely fantastic. You realise how good the new movie can be!
I'm gonna look on the internet how far the progression of casting etc. is going and if there is a date confirmed yet.
The Shining was great and was very loyal to the book, so this can be also done with IT.

It is the, uh, scariest book I've ever read.....Pennywise's backstory is the best part.
God bless.

King is one of my fave authors. I love his books but every film Ive seen based on one of his books has been weak. The Mist, 1408, Apt Pupil, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Hearts In Atlantis, Misery, Stand By Me are all pretty decent film adaptions by King. For television adaptions, I quite like Storm of The Century(original screenplay), IT and The Shining. Even The Stand is good, aside from some horrible special effects, spotty acting and ridiculous length. By the way, The Stand just recently got a big budget movie deal venturing on the possibility of 4 movies if the first is successful, which I am looking forward too.

Hated The Mist. Liked the Shining, that's a classic. Hated It, find clowns really creepy and one time when I was still a kid my sister and me had the brilliant idea to go watch IT, because maybe it would help overcome our fear of clowns. Yeah, makes sense doesn't it?
Had the opposite effect.
Oh yeah and the fact that there are serial killer clowns out there at the moment doesn't really help

I've been meaning to read The Shining, inspired by the release of Doctor Sleep a while back and then read Doctor Sleep, but, uh, that plan isn't going too well.
God bless.

God bless I've not read the book, but I'm aware that the film only takes place during a small portion of the novel and apparently not even one of the most exciting parts. For what it's worth though, if there wasn't a book, the film would seem a lot better than it is. I really enjoyed Hopkins character and performance in that movie.

kings books rarely make good films. stand by me (aka the body) & shawshank redemption (aka rita hayworth & shawshank redemption) are a couple of exceptions. the mist & green mile werent bad and misery was alright aswell. mainly his horror stuff doesnt convert well tho. hearts in atlantis & desperation stick out for me as bad attempts. IT was better, but still kinda dodgy. the stand was awful.

One that I loved was Apt Pupil (based on his story from Different Seasons, the same book with Stand By Me and the Shawshank Redeption). Dark, creepy, endlessly fascinating, and it all feels very real.Highly recommended. The film was brilliant.

ive always thought a remake of the running man was in order. the book is awesome. the movie (classic arnie) is so different. the only thing they both have in common is that theres a show called the running man. the entire story was changed.

Anyone read one of his newer ones (think 2012), about a man who time travels back to the Kennedy assasination - called 11/22/63?
Heard it was really great, picked it up recently but still yet to read it.
