I downloaded "hevy metal" drummer its ok. The lyrics are a bit cheesy but i got to the end of the song this time . I cant imagine me thinking their anything more than "ok" if i listened to them a bit more. How do you rate this band compared to other bands u like such as r.e.m. and oasis? cos i dont think their anything like in the same league really.

I like chilled-out, relaxing songs sometimes, and wilco do them well! bear in mind that i'm giving you the most poppy and accessible Wilco songs - they do much more darker songs, with better lyrics. but i prefer the upbeat stuff Most big REM fans (american fans really) are also Wilco fans. There are many connections between the 2 bands. Wilco often open for REM during US tours. There is a Wilco/REM splinter group called Minus 5 featuring members from both bands (i've never heard minus 5 though)

Dont you think though singing about usual stuff gets a bit boring? Oasis sang about anything from prostitutes to champagne supernovas. Thats partly what makes them the best band in the world.

First off..........I love eleven year old threads that awake from cryogenic sleep.
Has anybody purchased (stolen) the new 77 track box set? I'm asking for it for Christmas. Better be worth it!

Tweedy is one of the best American songwriters ever and its a really underrated guitarist. His playing on A Ghost Is Born is top notch. I've seen Wilco three times and they are one of the tightest groups around with an outstanding catalog of songs. Not really a shit album either. An amazing evolution for a band as well from alt country to roots rock to avant garde in ten years? One of the premier rock bands of the past 20 or so years.
I prefer Tweedy and Ryan Adams over a lot of the traditionally acclaimed America writers like Petty and The Boss although neither would exist without those two greats.

Wilco has been kicking ass and taking names for over 20 years. That's something special right there. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of my favorite albums of all-time. Not a bad song on that album. Killer documentary to go along with it. Reminds me of a modern/American Revolver. I've been dying for Wilco to make another album since it's been 3-4 years now. I didn't realize Jeff was dealing with a lot of personal issues at home with his wife sick with cancer. Hopefully she makes a full recovery.

Yeah, poor Jeff has had a lot to deal with over the course of his career. Obviously hope his wife can make a full recovery, but how cool of a dad does he seem to be? Tweedy seems like a awesome bonding experience for him and his son. Mama's gotta be proud of Papa Tweedy for taking his son out and playing with him after touring all these years.
