The Music "The Music"
(Capitol)
The next big thing from Britain is big all right: big as in the colossal guitar sound you get when you mixOasis and Stone Roses with some '70s progressive rock, like Yes and/or Led Zep, and then toss in some electronic shrapnel.
At first it's hard to sort through the tumult. The music is urgent, alarming and chaotic, like a live feed from the pit of a catastrophe. After repeated listens, though, the dust settles a bit and the noise feels more orchestrated, organized and arousing, especially during the disco apocalypse "Getaway." Even when things get comparatively sedate ("Human"), the sonics (thankfully) never surrender to the lyrics, which are inanely simple -- and appropriately so. There's no need for intellectual thumb-twiddling when you're overindulging more primal urges. T.F.
