One of the best NG interviews in absolutely ages.
Measured and thoughtful not grumpy and bitter!

One of the best NG interviews in absolutely ages. Measured and thoughtful not grumpy and bitter! Even on the last episodes of Matt's podcast he seems to be a lot lighter to me I mean, he's still a grumpy old man, that's who he is and I don't mind it, but he sounds less...I don't know, defensive? May be age, may be the fact that we're slowly getting out of the shit we've been deep into the last year and a half, may be just that he's happy with what he's doing Or he just liked the interviewer

How much money did Noel slip the interviewer to make completely unnecessary digs at Liam’s voice? X

Do you still hate Be Here Now?
I've grown a bit more fond of it over the last few years...That's something at least! Good one. I especially liked the part about BHN Yeah, good insight into his mindset at the time.

How much money did Noel slip the interviewer to make completely unnecessary digs at Liam’s voice? X Great answers from NG but yeah, the digs from the author seem completely unnecessary to the article at a bit try hard to win points.

I love Noel but he's always changing his speech according to the moment. For example, I remember in his first and second tour how he proudly said that he would never stop playing Oasis songs, that they were a part of him. Now he's like 'I didn't have a choice cos I only have one album'.
And it's sad cos the its pretty clear how much he's bothered by Oasis fans (he even said abuse). Considering how that man can hold a grudge, I'm inclined to believe that this behavior pulls him further and further away from Oasis songs in many ways.
Anyway, looks like that Glastonbury gig was going to be epic =(

Maybe that's how it is in UK, but all the Oasis fans I know are women, and it seems like most of the Oasis fans Liam interacts on twitter seem to be young women too.

Extraordinary interview, one of the bests I've ever read from him.

Wow, this writer/interviewer is just skin-crawlingly obnoxious. It feels like they're trying to outdo Noel in terms of opinions and personality, which feels like the very opposite of the approach you should take? And the potshots at Liam are driving me up the wall. I've barely even gotten anything from Noel yet!

Now he's like 'I didn't have a choice cos I only have one album'. He said half of the songs on 1st solo tour were Oasis' songs because he had only one album, and now with more solo stuff he plays less and less Oasis' material. But, if you go check his recent setlists, he continues to play 8 or 9 Oasis' song per show. Even when he plays smaller gigs with 12 songs, 5 or 6 are Oasis' songs. Maybe he's referring to the future setlists, I don't know, but this speach of playing less and less Oasis' songs nowadays is pure bullshit. Of course he's shortening his catalogue of Oasis' songs usually playing DLBIA, Wonderwall, HTWA, Little by Little and Whatever in the most gigs, but if one day he comes and play a show with 90% of solo songs on the setlist, I'd be totally surprised.

Totally agree. I guess it just felt weird the way he talked about the Oasis tunes, almost with a bit of resentment, probably regarding backlash from the fans.

I wish interviewers would ask questions about the 00's Oasis.

A good interview and surprisingly self-aware, which comes off really well with Noel, though not without its “oh Noel” bits for me.
I did laugh when he said “nobody tells you what movies to make” as the movie business is more controlled by money than any (because it costs so much to make a movie) and it’s damn well impossible for even huge names to make what they want to make, but I guess he never tried to make a movie haha.
And personally I could have done without his comments about “quotas,” but at least he didn’t veer way off on a talk radio rant.
I think he did as good as a job as a person can explaining why he doesn’t want to do Oasis songs, and why it annoys him that it's all people want, but I do know for a fact that Weller has played “Town Called Malice” nearly every show in the States for a couple decades, so the story that he wouldn't touch it is a bit of myth making. For sure, Weller is grumpy about this stuff as well but in the end, he too does it, because people love it and it doesn't actually stop him from making the albums he wants.
It will be interesting to see over the next decade how Noel balances both a changing music world and the power of his past with who he is.

"In the same way many heretical Paul Weller fans prefer The Style Council to his earlier incarnation in The Jam, so there is a growing constituency who far prefer Noel Gallagher’s work with his High Flying Birds, work that has a greater subtlety and far more complexion than the stag weekend rabble rousers he used to churn out for Oasis."
Sorry, would you care to name any of these people?
