Some context: apparently Bono has been using his quarantine time to write letters to the 60 songs that "saved his life" (for his 60th birthday). He selected Live Forever as one of those songs: ( source) Let the discussion commence. Personally, his writing style is why I think so many people dispise the man, as it comes across a trying a bit too hard to be erudite and abstract. However, I do think he nails what the song is about and what Oasis is/was about. Also, I guess we now know which lineup Bono wants for the reunion...

Fair point and that did cross my mind, though I would bet he thinks of Oasis as the first lineup, as U2's label was hot to sign them away from Creation originally.

Never knew - wonder how that would have worked. More interference from the record company? Maybe but they might have advised the band to put their best songs on latter albums!

That might've been a good decision, even in the '90s. BHN was a huge creative blunder imo (with the mixing/mastering at least), then SOTSOG had some poor decisions and set the tone for the tracklisting and production choices that would follow. Someone advising them in a way that worked with Noel's overbearing presence would've been huge for the band in staying relevant worldwide, even into the 21st century.

Quite an honor really. The boys should be proud.

It was actually Mother Records (a subsidiary of Island) that famously at the last minute told Marcus Russell that that they would offer "double what McGee is offering." Definitely would have changed the course of the band had they gone with Mother over Creation, for sure.
