Hello! I'm Osthagen (real name Jack Armstrong). I'm 29, born in Atlanta, US to Scottish parents, raised in Edinburgh since '92. I currently live in North West England.
My like for Oasis probably comes from hearing the singles on the radio from about (WS)MG? onward, as many people did, and generally really liking them. But I only became really interested in the band when I discovered Definitely Maybe in c.2001. It seems that the opening chords of Rock N Roll star just hooked me right from the start. And Cigarettes and Alcohol is in my top-ten favourite songs of all time. I suppose that DM combined all the best bits of several great eras for music, the Glam Rock of Bowie/T Rex/Slade, the Punk of the Sex Pistols, the psychedelia and optimism of The Beatles, obviously with a bit of Nirvana thrown in there. I absolutely love it. I now own all of the Oasis studio albums and revisit them often enough, but DM will always be my favourite. My top five songs for the band:
1. Cigs and Alcohol 2. Headshrinker 3. Rock N Roll Star 4. Hey Now 5. Bring It On Down
Outside Oasis, I'm into quite a broad variety of music. My CD collection contains over 600 albums. In terms of other acts from the mid-1990s Britpop/Indie era, I have records from all of the major bands as well as some of the more obscure ones, but Ash are my favourite from the era besides Oasis. I love Grunge rock. My favourites there include Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Bush, Nirvana, Hole, Stone Temple Pilots, Green River, and Mother Love Bone. As I said I love a variety of music, but other bands I'm especially keen on include, Catherine Wheel, The Jam, Foo Fighters, Sex Pistols, early REM, Husker Du, Jimmy Eat World, GNR, Buzzcocks and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
My main non-music interest is travelling. I've been to around 30 countries to date, across Europe, Asia and North America. I work as an A-level history teacher. I'm married and have on daughter.
