I’ve got England losing to Colombia in the last 16.

Honestly, I’d rather be on the other side of the bracket - it’s more fun and exciting to face teams like Brazil, Portugal, France, Argentina, etc.
Sure, we have a realistic route into the Semi-Final (not suggesting we will necessarily get there, of course) but the fixtures are not as enthralling.

I think Brazil will probably win it and would have knocked us out if we did beat Japan. In the past England have always seemed to meet one of the big nations early in the knock out stages. Germany in 2010, Portugal 2006, Brazil 2002, Argentina 1998. I'm more nervous to play Colombia than I would playing Japan though.

whoever wins this arg-fra game will win it all i think. england could actually make the final. not sure ive ever seen any 'easier' run up than theirs. ok, spain could be tough, but theyre about as consistent as england so itd be anyones game. chances are theyll blow it before then tho...just waiting for that kane red card.
first time germany have failed to progress through the groups. least amount of goals theyve ever scored. first time theyve lost to an asian team. ive said since 2010 to drop ozil. hes just plain lazy. amazing to watch, but lets too much get by him. timo werner could be the worst german striker ive seen...and i had to live through kevin kuranyi. muller on the right?!? boateng as a holding mid?!? just crazy. kimmich was the only player to turn up...so depressing.

England now have the easiest route to the World Cup final that they will ever get. It’s coming home, lads! 🏴

Come on, let’s be honest England are going to throw it way against Columbia, going to blow it away even.
Nahhhhhh
I know England can play. 2-1 to England.
Three Lions on the shirt.
It’s coming home!

I really don't understand why we don't play Vardy alongside Kane? It would be a replica of Sherringham alongside Shearer, surely? Vardys a piece of overrated shite and can only play on the counter. Tosser of a human being too, thank god England didn’t have to play Japan is all I can say... Welbeck’s a better player for England. Might not be able to hit a cows backside with a banjo but holds the ball up better and better link up play - Vardy didn’t even touch the ball against Belgium given how tactically thick he is.

England Columbia is scheduled for 4.00am in Australia's East Coast, so I'll hear about the winner tomorrow. Good night everyone, and may your team win!

For sure, there is nobody, but it sums up the dearth of striker talent in England. It’s the reason they won’t win the World Cup - unless, in a hypothetical situation, Kane who really is top class is super human and can play to his maximum from now until the final, the lack of depth in quality is so poor.

Vardy is useful if we're in the lead and the other team is pushing forward as he can exploit the space behind. Otherwise he's best left on the bench.
We need Sterling to put in a good performance like he does for City. He also needs to become clinical in front of goal, we can't afford to miss easy chances.
Kane is in form and full of confidence. I back him to score tonight. However I have doubts about us defensively and I think Colombia will cause us problems. It's going to be a close game. I'm nervous...

I'm trying to make myself calm about the Sweden-Switzerland game by imagining England losing tonight. It would be truly joyous!

This is a big worry for me - at first it was encouraging to see us have so many chances, but eventually you realise that he's just not putting them away nearly as often as he should. A few times in this WC the team that dominated play and had an excess of nearly-goals has lost to one well executed move. That situation could easily play out for England with Sterling on the form he is.

We aint beating Columbia, they're a good side who I think will ultimately be better under pressure. Its not to say we aren't capable but we just can't seem to do it when it matters. Ever. Maybe I've just been scarred to many times.

Ahead of today's World Cup Last 16 match against Colombia, here is the more positive rendition of Baddiel & Skinner's Three Lions from 1998, updated from the 1996 original, because after all, it's coming home!!
GARETH SOUTHGATE, THE WHOLE OF ENGLAND IS WITH YOU!!!!

So will Southgate be tactical again tonight and let Colombia win, just to avoid an invetable loss against Sweden?
