If you listen to songs like Alce, Life in Vain and I will show you the singing voice of Liam sounds completely different from his voice on DM 1-2 years later. By different i also mean pretty bad and amateurish(compared with his later vocals, of course). How did he change his voice so drastically in just a 1-2 years? I find it fascinating. Those who love saying Liam was a shit singer and was the "talentless" brother should really listen to pre-Oasis tunes and see how much Liam changed himself and forced himself. I think Noel joining gave him that extra confidence. Noels mega songs helped too. When Noel joined everything changed for the better, including his singing voice. To say they would've been better apart....

The brothers Griffith deserve a lot of recognition for the mentoring they gave the brothers Gallagher.

I know Liam has mentioned them on twitter a few months ago and he appeared to be grateful and acknowledged their input. What's been Noels position over the years?

What I was going to say, stop tried to sound like Ian Brown basically.

I remember reading something in a thread on this forum some time ago concerning their absence from last year's documentary. Legal stuff involved too?

I would really love to know their level of involement. Some might say(heh!) they basically gave Oasis their first 3 albums. And others praise Noels genius like he's some god. I've always thought that after BHN, the number of epic songs diminished drastically. Maybe there's some truth in all those claims that The Realies gave them their most succesfull albums.... But who knows.

Yeah, The Real People helped them a lot to develop their style. I haven't listened to all their albums but there are songs on their album 'the real people' that would fit well on DM.

The way I've heard it, they were shunted aside to avoid sharing songwriting credits on songs the Real People helped Noel out on. Tony's book adds that they had an informal agreement to have the Griffiths produce Oasis, but that was quietly disregarded as well. Liam seems more open to acknowledging them, but Noel's much more guarded by necessity: There are no legal repercussions for Liam saying this or that singer taught him a lot about how to sing, but Noel saying anyone had an uncredited assist on his songs leaves him open to lawsuits.

I read The Real People taught Liam more melodical singing style and, according to Tony, it was them who introduced Oasis to The Beatles music properly.

I reckon The Real People get far too much credit, if they were so talented how come they achieved fuck all themselves?

I reckon The Real People get far too much credit, if they were so talented how come they achieved fuck all themselves? Yeah... I think Liam would agree with you. Talent isn't everything. Noel would argue that the music is the most important thing in a band. But yeah, if they were so godlike then why aren't they famous? Liam was right when he said that the atittude and image are as important as the music. Maybe Noel would've become like the real people if Liam wasn't around. Who knows.

There's this Real People song that the chorus of Don't Go Away is very clearly lifted from, nearly a direct copy. Thing is, the Real People song in question is nowhere near as good as DGA.

In my opinion creating something that is still listened to 25 years after release is an achievement in itself.

I reckon The Real People get far too much credit, if they were so talented how come they achieved fuck all themselves? The history of music is littered with great bands who never "made it". The Real People first appeared on the scene when bands like them had become unfashionable. Oasis came along a few years later right when bands like them were becoming fashionable again. Yes, you need talent, you also need that star quality, but luck/fashion/culture/society also plays a big part in why a band like Oasis become main-stream and popular.

Who knows. Erm... From what I've read/heard Noel thought being a roadie for Inspiral Carpets was his high point in life and after he got sacked he thought he'd be back on the dole. Noel didn't have any of the famous songs written before he joined Oasis. He didn't have anything that would've get him recognition. In fact, I don't think he had written any of the songs that made it in the records before meeting The Real People, except for Columbia instrumental jam.

I think it's quite early that one.

They gave confidence and insights on how to build a song and how to sound from what we know.
Noel lifted a couple of melodies from them but i dont believe the conspiracy theory that they wrote all the songs on the first 3 records, come on... Their songs are at best, listenable.
They got credit on rocking chair and should have had got credits on dont go away too, this one is the biggest Noel's rip off.
They were basically what George Martin was for the Beatles, except Oasis went to other producers.

This was discussed recently on the Oasis Podcast interview with one of the Griffiths brothers. Real People got credit for Rockin' Chair, but not Columbia or Don't Go Away as a kind of settlement deal to end their case against Noel. (Paraphrasing from memory, go to the podcast for the actual words).

Maybe it was not very clear who wrote what. I mean, we got the Real People recording of their don't go away that's earlier, but that does not mean Noel was not involved in this song.

Interesting you say that because, whenever I've heard a Real People song, I've thought it was shite. Especially that one that Don't Go Away "steals" from. Whatever the Real People did with Oasis they never had the talent to replicate for themselves in my opinion.
