He is getting torn a new one on social media. Not much love at all. Many posts calling him a Tory? I consider Twitter a bag of dicks but if it is considered any measure of public opinion then Noel is nowhere near as well liked as Liam.

He is getting torn a new one on social media. Not much love at all. Many posts calling him a Tory? From weirdos who love Corbyn but no nothing about politics and also have just seen Noel's comments calling Corbyn a communist. Literally in the same breath, Noel called the Tory's 'psychedelically out of touch' In terms of his contribution to the show, they only ever got him talking about City - clearly - and in all fairness it showed how different it is between a pro pundit and a guest pundit. Noel made some good points - I'm an Everton fan anyway - and I'm sure most City fans agreed with what he was saying and his jibes at Neville were funny. Shame he maybe didn't put himself forward a bit more as towards the end he made quite a good point, but the rest of the time he was a bit too vague. The one time you've seen Noel shy away from the spotlight a bit - but fair play to him. Was getting some grief on twitter from a journo who's a bit of a knob whenever I've met him. He was making the point that this isn't what watchers pay for. I made the point that I don't pay my BT subscription fee to get quality lines from Michael Owen like: "If you don't score goals, you hardly ever win games." He didn't have a response. I'd like to see more of him and Liam doing bits like this in fairness. They're funny and they're both still massive names. Obviously, you can only do it with City games, but Noel especially is pretty eloquent when it comes to his opinions - just a shame he wasn't a bit more analytical, as when he was he made some decent observations.

I'm still awaiting someone questioning his attendance at City prior to the oil money coming in. From what I heard, neither him or Liam attended the etihad prior to playing their with Oasis in 2005. Also, apparently his lads are city fans now. He said on Soccer Am years ago though that his eldest was an Arsenal fan, with Tim Lovejoy even presenting him with a Junior Gunner membership on air. Don't even get me started on the Maine Road Documentary either when it showed him walking around the ground. "This is where I used to stand" - it was the away end.

Noel is a champagne socialist at best, and probably a Tory at this point.
tbf a lot of the criticism is coming from shit football journalists who think they deserve TV time more than a rock star does. It's just bitterness.

I believe so. It's a regular thing mentioned on a United forum I frequent. I don't think it was meant that he was an away fan there, just that he had no clue about Maine Road.

"This is where I used to stand" - it was the away end. What documentary was this? Every time I have heard or read Noel talk about his old Citeh days were him saying that he used to be located in the Kippax, which definitely wasn't an "away end" (although you should also remember that in the 70s there was no such thing as an "away end" -- they were pre-segregation days).

I don't know the name. It was when Maine Road was closing. And away fans did go in a section of the Kippax. There was a tunnel separating the fans.

Death, taxes, and salty United fans angry at the Gallaghers. You'd think Noel scored the winner with a Liam assist.

And away fans did go in a section of the Kippax. There was a tunnel separating the fans. As I said, when Noel was a regular in the 70s, it was before fans were properly segregated, so away fans did mix in the Kippax, but the Kippax was never considered an "away end", and whenever I have heard Noel talk about that period he has said the Kippax was where he would frequent. To call Noel up on his Citeh credentials because of that is just false. Without a clip from the actual documentary, I would take what United fans say with a pinch of salt

When was that though? Pretty sure Noel has said that since his time in the Inspirals (early to mid 80s?) he had stopped going to Citeh. His days of being a regular were throughout the 70s and early 80s? I'm not saying you are incorrect, which is why I ask initially what the documentary was so I could see for myself. I'm just saying that without an actual clip or evidence, and just the word of some United fans on a forum, I wouldn't call Noel's Citeh credentials into question.

Like I said, I don't know. However, he's known for talking bollocks at times. City fans aren't know as 'the liars' for nothing Haha he does talk a generous amount of bollocks, both the Gallaghers do, the little scallywags. But when Noel says he was a regular home and away Citeh supporter, I believe him. And going back to the original thread topic -- I've seen a lot of negative press today about Noel's appearance as a pundit for the match. I agree, he offered no real insight or anything more than the average match going fan, but what did they expect?! He's hardly known for his sports analysis acumen. He talks shite and bigs up his own team just like any other fan. And as for the Independent calling Sky out saying the "paying customers deserve more", have they not tuned in to Sky at all in the last few years? The whole affair is a complete load of over priced bollocks. If it wasn't for the live sports I would have cancelled my subscription years ago.

Paul Gallagher goes quite into detail in his book how him and his brothers became Manchester City fans as kids and he even had a whole chapter about kid Liam jinxing the team so that they lost whenever he was around or something like that. As that book was a bit of a reckoning (if loving) with his brothers then, I don't think he'd have gone the extra effort to invent that just to give his brothers more street cred?

Haha In fairness he was definitely at the Etihad when Everton played there in 2004 (I think it was 5-1 City - Wright-Philips scored) as my Dad was in the next exec box along. Not sure about Liam. The interview in question actually was just when his eldest son had been born or was about to be. There was also a Sky Sports interview from around the same time where he was asked would he bring his sons up City fans. He said something along the lines of 'it'll be up to them, but they'll be London lads, so probably Arsenal or Chelsea. It'll be better than supporting City'. That was all prior to the takeover. And wasn't that the Kippax though? And wasn't a section of that changed from home to away in the 90s? I could be wrong.

Noel, Liam and Paul are all huge, gobshite City fans.
The club got very lucky nine years ago but fair play to them, they've also built Manchester up and there's a fascinating fact that the City group now own around 30% of the land in the City - including the entirety of Eastlands and much of the new student developments.
