We know how Warner placed Liam with Andrew and Greg but I wonder why those two were paired together. I looked quickly and didn't see any prior Greg and Andrew partnership. It would be interesting to know if they've worked together or if some genius (not sarcastic) at Warner felt the combo of Greg Kurstin's pedigree and Andrew Wyatt's style would create great songs for Liam and stuck them all together.

Especially as the credits have Liam down as writing 8 of the 15 tracks himself. Wyatt seems to be giving himself a lot of credit, either that or the credits are lying 😶

Wyatt seems to be giving himself a lot of credit, either that or the credits are lying 😶 That's what i was wondering in another thread, eg, how much of a contribution Liam gave to those co-credited tracks. Clearly, the guy is trying to get all the lights on him from Wall of Glass, which is the track that somehow launched Liam's solo career. But it would interesting to know more about the songwriting process of those co-credited tracks. Even if Liam had 0,0009% input in the song, let's say had a word somewhere, it would still be credited as Gallagher / Dude. Most of the songs Liam "co-wrote" are very different, so he could have just been in the room while the guys were writing it. a bit like Robbie Wiliams with Guy Chambers.

AW has co writing credits on five songs out of 15. Three with GK And LG. Two with Tighe only. A substantial contributor no doubt but he does makes it sound as if he wrote the majority of the album in those quotes. A case of a professional songwriter bigging up his own contribution to a great album. Its seems to be the liberal use of 'bunch of songs'and the suggestion there were several different bunches. How many bananas make a bunch?

Am i the only one who hopes he moves on to different writers for the next album?
Someone who will really push him in every aspect is what he needs. Theres ideas there that could be made into something special.
Tunes banged out in a day are all well and good but theres moments on the album that feel too rushed.

I hope next time he goes with a good producer but hardly any co-writer, and no songs that he's not written. He's got a strong bulk of songs that he's written alone Bold Greedy Soul When I'm in Need (seems like he was the main songwriter on this one, although co-credited) You Better Run I Get By Universal Gleam I've all I Need All My People Who knows what he did for the other tracks, but when you read bits here and there, seems like the songs were already almost all written and he got co-credits just for marketing purposes. I'd rather have a 10 track Liam record, all Liam, than a 15 track with the Mafia. Even though they have made a good record. Hopefully this record will help him be more confident in his songwriting. He can do it.

The two bonus tracks he wrote plus Eh La would be nowhere near good enough to flesh out even a 10 track record. I think he should use his current situation to find the best people to work with and do the whole album with them. I'd be happy if it's Kurstin and Wyatt with more stuff like Doesn't Have To Be That Way and Wall of Glass.

I'm with Andy Morris on this. I rather have an album of Liam's idosyncratic songs than some of the ones written for him on As You Were. Paper Crown is a well crafted song but it could have been sung be anyone (you could image Robbie Williams singing it for instance). It's just too polished and slightly soulless. Chinatown is almost patronising when you realise that Liam didn't write it. It's like the songwriters have gone: 'What are Oasis known for? Nonsense lyrics with Beatles references' and then written a song to order. It's trying too hard - a bit like Andy Bell used to do - trying to write an Oasis song rather than writing an Andy Bell song.
I'd rather have All My People / All Mankind and Eh La which have some of Liam's character even though technically they might be inferior. My favourite songs on As You Were are Bold and Greedy Soul and those are Liam's.

Liam himself has said repeatedly he has no interest in being taken seriously as a songwriter so it's only ever going to go the other way and increase the amount of co writing. His label obviously don't see it as important either as they pushed him to do the collaboration in the first place. There is simply no one within Liam's working environment who have been pushing him towards the wholly liam written album ideal. Quite the opposite.
And given how successful it's been then he is now going to be swamped with people pitching songs to him now he's shown he's willing to collaborate with others and update his sound (within reason) on IDHTBTW. All any professional songwriter wants is a big name to record their song and they don't come much bigger than Liam Gallagher, at least in his genre.

Liam got crucified on here for the lyrics and he isnt credited at all for it. I think FWIW falls victim of people seeing it as quite patronising that someone would basically sit down and do what they think Noel would. By As You Were being a success they may very well think that they can simply replicated Noels writing, which would be suicide.

That's why i said Liam needs a producer to push him, a bit like Noel did with David Holmes. Someone who will put his foot down and not release every single tune Liam comes up with. I do believe that with hard work, Liam can make an album by himself. He's got melodies in him, he just need to expand his songs. Wall of Glass is people writing like Liam but with a stronger structure. It's not really an earth shattering song. None of them are, they are just built better.

Your talking as a liam gallagher fan and thats not enough to sustain a career, which is what hes realised. Weve been here before with Beady Eye and Beady isnt yhe same level as Oasis Or As You Were. Liam can write but can't write a choris to save his life and a catchy chours is what makes a album commercial or not. Commercial material is what sells. He has done exacly the right thing and he will keep it up and so he should. He needs a follow up album with 11/12 COMMERCIAL tracks. Liam can not do that alone. The proof is in the pudding and the results are in AS YOU WERE

While i agree an alum totally written by Liam would have been weaker on this occasion, i think it is unfair to judge Liam's output solely on the songs he actually wrote. To me, its obvious the bonus tracks were songs he was asked to come up with and this wasnt simply a case of his songs being pushed out by better ones.
