The unexpected has happened before many of our eyes, Liam has gone from being at his lowest after the break up of Beady Eye, a laughing stock to many casual fans and critics, weak albums, weak vocal performances, weak exposure and unpopular opinion amongst the general public...
Noel was 2 successful albums in, and riding high on the back of a reputation of being the nice and talented one (still some truth to this of course) a master of media manipulation and charasmatic interviews that kept any audience on the edge of their seat for his next nugget of sage wisdom, or outrageously funny anecdote, a true raconteur and legendary songwriter.....and of course Liam seemingly being the antithesis of all of this...
How did he turn it around?
I have always tried to remain neutral when it came to Liam vs Noel as i love them both dearly for being the soundtrack to my youth, but i'd be lying if i said i thought Liam had the ability in him to eventually turn his fortunes around from such a low starting point, my attempts to take to Beady Eye were all in vain, i gave up on them, i didn't like listening to Liam's voice and any interview he did he seemed miserable, angry and almost conveyed a sense that he knew it was already over...
The last few months have been a whirlwind to watch unfold, a surprisingly brilliant first single peaked my, the casual fans, and the non Oasis fans interest, girls in my office were downloading it, i even heard my mum playing it on her ipod in Spain!
Then came the interviews, he had a new aura around him, he was smiling and laughing, being incredibly animated like in his glory days, and being genuinely captivatingly funny, he was building a social media presence on facebook, there was less disdain for him in the comments section, and there was a hint he could do all this by himself and be his own brand...
A horrible tragedy in his hometown and a subsequent benefit concert would propel him into the conscience of would be young fans, some who never even existed on this earth whilst he was holding court to a cool 250,000 people at the history making Knebworth...
Then the album drops, it's good, it's actually really fucking good, i kept having to check myself that i wasn't experiencing hyperbolic rhetoric that often plagues the forum in the early days of a release, but a week has passed and we are pinching the physical copy of the album to see if it's not a dream and it's not...
He's number 1 in the charts, has sold over 100,000 copies of his album, he has vindicated himself from a perception of a foul mouthed beer swilling hooligan who can't write a good song to save himself, to a charming national treasure who can and does write a damn good song, just like his brother...
And the whole story narrated by a backdrop of Twitter hysterics, enough to make Donald Trump squirm...
I'm genuinely happy for him that he has evened up the score, especially after seeing his true character in the Supersonic movie being the antithesis of years of public perception, he deserved this break.
The album will now keep my thirst quenched until the 24th November when Who Built The Moon? hits us, i'm not a fan of HM but i'm severely excited from Noel's small album clips, lets hope the forum is as buzzing for that as it currently is now...
Feel free to discuss Liam's transformation and what his next move may be..
As you were....

What I like more about liams comeback is that he did it without going an inch against oasis.
As a fan I truly appreciate that. He says almost every time that oasis was the best band on the world and that he prefers being in oasis than going solo.
This is exactly the opposite of what noel does and thats why I always have picked a side in their feud. I can stand how noel pisses in half of oasis records and gigs saying inderectly that we were morons for buying albums and tickets for years... even as far as he said "with a singer that cant sing anymore"... talented prick, you can be succesful without pissing in your past and roots and thats what liam has shown.
Its almost unbelivable how liam managed to get such hype with an "I prefer being in oasis, this is my plan b" attitude.

I think you're right to mention the Supersonic film as playing a bit part in his revival in as much as it made the general public receptive to a Liam comeback. That film reminded people how funny, genuine and charismatic he was - and made them realise they missed that unique personality and star quality. I interviewed the director Mat Whitecross and he told me that Noel had asked him to make the film but he had to reassure Liam he wasn't going to be portrayed as a villain in order to get him on board. Ironic really as it did him a lot of good in the long-term. Here's my interview with Mat in case you missed it first time round: soundcloud.com/user9968202/mat-whitehouse-supersonic-interview

I love the work of both Noel and Liam equally. But does anyone else get the impression from interviews that Noel is very much into the celebrity culture (constantly talking about hanging out with Bono etc) whereas Liam seems to lead more of a "normal" lifestyle where he just hangs out with his girlfriend and kids and doesn't seem arsed about the fame game? Of course none of that makes a difference in a musical sense, I'm a fan of both of them, but I must say the impression I've got over the past year is that Liam is the more "grounded" and relatable of the two. That may be part of why people have warmed to him more, he doesn't spend interviews name dropping.

Yes i agree to a certain extent, Noel has been name dropping for some time and been hanging around with questionable celebrities (Russell Brand) Liam is definitely more grounded when it comes to the fame game like you say, Noel's magnetic personality maybe drew in alot of potential hangers on and no doubt some geniune friends, and he seems very comfortable living the da vida loca (sorry) with the movers and shakers of the celebrity world... I just hope Noel keeps some sense of grounding during his upcoming press cycle, as his recent interview witb Chris Moyles demonstrated to me that he is taking things more serious, i was extremely underwhelmed with the interview especially as someone who would be the first person to scramble to the play tab anytime he speaks to the press...

About Noel yeah he does go on about his love of Bono too much but then again the guy's 50 now he seems happy and he's hanging around with people who he wants to hang out with and enjoying himself. Although I love 90s Noel at least he is in a good place so I can't begrudge him.

I think it's all because of being genuine and speaking and doing what you feel. He is passionate about music and I always knew Noel and beady eye were holding him back in the last years of Oasis and with Beady Eye. He's free.

I'm very happy for Liam, things have gone really well. He deserves it.
I'm also really liking this 15 track album idea. Typically, you'd think it was too much but I just can't get enough of AYW.

15 year old to me yesterday “have you ever heard of Liam Gallagher?” Me: yes, he was in Oasis 15yr old: “ah I’ve never heard of Oasis”
Come on Liam. You’ve got it!

Flicking through One Love now. Paddy McGuinness as a talking head, Pharrell, Miley, Ariana performing. Bieber, Sara Cox. Katy Perry. Some with local connections, others written in to global culture. And what I know is still to come has me feeling floored already.
Well done, the gaffer.
