88% WoG is pretty conclusive.

WoG is not in my top 5 off the album but it is a well crafted, well produced song and a good choice for a single. Would go with Wall of Glass by some distance.

Radiohead nailed it with Nude / Weird Fishes / All I Need too.
More:
Black Celebration / Fly on the Windscreen / A Question of Lust
Left To My Own Devices / I Want A Dog / Domino Dancing
Mr Disco / Vanishing Point / Dream Attack
Dancing With The Moonlit Knight / I Know What I Like / Firth Of Fifth
Viva La Vida / Violet Hill / Strawberry Swing

Viva La Vida / Violet Hill / Strawberry Swing you're a funny guy Three absolutely brilliant songs from a band at an incredible creative high. One of my all-time favourite albums, in fact.

An another thread which will turn to the same arguments over, over, over and over. Seriously it's only one song. It's Waste of time and boring to argue same thing day in and day out because you cant agree with everyone and everything. If you like this song, enjoy it and if you dont like it, you dont have to listen to it. Its not contest, these two songs are completely different and if anyone thinks its a terrible song, so what? If anyone thinks its a great song, so what? Its not such a big deal anyway. It's not such a big deal but people on the forum seem to enjoy the discussion. Only a bit of fun by the tone of the original post. If Liam had released Holly Mountain then his career would be over. Fair play to Noel doing something different but if he was to review this song (if it had be written and performed by someone else) I'm pretty sure he'd say it's dross.

Probably the album that made the 12-year old me discover popular music for real. Remember TV running ads when Violet Hill was released and I looked the video up on Youtube and was hooked ever since.

As for the Coldplay trio, I'd drop VLV and attach DAAHF, but can see why people would leave on VLV... It was just a bit too commercial for me.

If we are playing the trio game, I'd like to nominate
I'm happy Just to Dance With You / And I Love Her / Tell Me Why / Can't Buy Me Love (Having trouble dropping IHJTDWY cause I have a bias to George songs)
Honestly that whole side of AHDN is probably my Beatles highlight.

If Noel's album bombs get ready for the jokes to start saying how much he needs Liam again lol I don't say this lightly but it could be the worst Noel album to date since I personally think Holy Mountain is a piece of dog shit & I wasn't having any of that 2min preview either. That's just my opinion tho...
I do respect Noel for trying something different becuase he needed too but Liam's just leaving dust for Noel to walk through, at the moment anyway.
Liam's actual gigs would surely sell out a lot better than Noel's too

Considered skipping Strawberry Swing in favour of Yes as well.

Wall of Glass and it is not close. Glad to see the votes reflect that.

Wall Of Glass was just an okay song for me when I first heard it, and that was that. Holy Mountain on the other hand was crap on first impression, but has grown on me a lot. So Holy Mountain for me.

WOG is the result of some A-list pop writers/producers trying to imitate Noel Gallagher songwriting circa WTSMG era. And I have to say they have (more or less) succeeded in it. And Liam is still my favourite performer of all time
But Holy Mountain is a real, very good IMO Noel Gallagher song that tries to open a new path. So, Holy Mountain

The results were predictable, but I have to say my answer is "obviously, Holy Mountain".
Wall of Glass strikes me as a calculated a tempt to give Liam a nostalgia-tinged first single and aim for a hit, even putting elements from Supersonic in it (chord progression on the pre-chorus + pentatonic riff in between repetitions of the refrain). It's safe modern rock, a bit bland a it leaves me cold. It's not a bad song by any means but I think Liam's voice deserves something with more personality and flavour.
Holy Mountain is such a deceptively simple tune, it's equal parts glam, bubblegum, 50s rock'n'roll, it's got a slightly dark edge with the distorted brass and Phil Spector-like production. But at the same time, it sounds modern. I can't get enough of it.

Holy Mountain deserves credit for being different No it doesn't And apart from the production, which is obviously the one thing sticking out, it's really not THAT different. The melody, the song structure, the lyrics, all of it is just a continuation of the bland and uninspired songwriting that was so frequent for Oasis in the 2000's. I would have loved it if Noel truly went in a new direction. But if you strip Holy Mountain of its flutes and its horns, all you have is yet another unremarkable piece of music.
