I always thought When I'm In Need was a Liam written tune - it was in the 2015 pub video I believe + it sounds like a song by him. He's not the sole songwriter credited, but he is the primary one, right? He said Bold and When I'm In Need were the songs he had demoed and got the deal from Warner off. I'm guessing the start of the album version is from that demo, and Iain Archer probably came up with the instrumental bit at the end to flesh it out and got credit for it. Hm, I thought he said Bold and Greedy Soul were those two?

amazing that these guys both produced and played all over these tracks. far from some piecemeal stuff. that's why this album is so great. they produced and played somewhat as a cohesive unit. who is dan mcdougall? he's all over it- drums and guitar.

[bnot sure if your being entirely serious there. Dan is the drummer in Liam's live band. He is a multi instrumentalist and producer and was heavily involved from the very start, building up Liam's demos.

oh okay- yeah not one for names. looking back i do recall him being mentioned. and- as a drummer- for months now ive been wondering who his drummer is in his live band- but been too lazy to look it up. overall- there is a theme here- too lazy lol. i'm just about to play drums to the entirety of the album after a few listens. Luckily- i do have that ability left I'll let you- and McDougall- know how that goes. As You Were mancraider. i enjoy your posts bro.

Liam alone: - Bold - Greedy Soul - You Better Run - I Get By - Universal Gleam - I’ve All I Need - All My People/All Mankind - I Never Wanna Be Like You Liam + 1: - When I’m In Need (Iain Archer) - For What It’s Worth (Simon Jons) Andrew Wyatt & Greg Kurstin (with Liam) - Come Back To Me - Doesn’t Have To Be That Way - Wall Of Glass (also Andrew Sidney Fox, Michael Tighe) Andrew Wyatt & Michael Tighe (no Liam): - Paper Crown - Chinatown Based on all the above, I’d say: - Liam’s stuff is the most “Oasis”-y, unsurprisingly - When I’m In Need feels very “Liam”, Iain maybe only had minor input during recording, as he produced this one? - For What It’s Worth, I’d guess Liam verses, with Simon beefing it up with middle eight & chorus - Andrew & Gregg’s stuff feels like songwriters being brought in to offer modern-sounding tunes that suit Liam - Andrew & Tighe’s stuff feels like two of them going off to write a couple of softer tunes - No idea how Wall of Glass had 5 writers, would guess it was knocked around in the studio with Fox/Tighe chipping inDoes anyone have any links to interviews/articles where this is discussed more? Would love to piece together the process. Based on the sound of everything and what little I know I’d guess: - Liam plays Bold to record company, gets deal - Liam has bunch of other tunes knocking around, record company suggests bringing people in to tidy a couple up a bit (WIIN, FWIW) and add a few to the pot (WOG/CBTM/DHTBTW/others(?) - After first sessions, they get Tighe in to soften the overall album for balance (PC, CT) Liam talks about how they came up with WAG in this interview: “I’d never met Greg or Andrew before,” Gallagher says of Kurstin and Andrew Wyatt, who also contributed to the songs on As You Were. “I sent Greg ‘Bold’ and ‘Greedy Soul,’ and I said, ‘Look, this is the kind of stuff I want to do, in theory.’ So I got there and we had a cup of tea and I said, ‘Can I play this song that I’ve got this kind of riff for?’ And I played it and they went, ‘Cool!’ And we built it up that way. Andrew was writing a couple of words down, and we started writing a few bits down together. And not writing them down, just putting them out there, we got a couple of verses together. Then I went in and I sang it. There were a few phrases that Andrew had, and I was going, ‘Maybe I’ll sing it like this?’ And he was going, ‘Yeah!’ It kind of just went from there. After lunch we had a go again, and that was ‘Wall of Glass.’ It was easy, man. We just sort of did it.”

I'm glad Liam is involved in most of the writing for record, thumbs up.
A bit sad he wasn't on Paper Crown, but the song is amazing and suits him well.

So... only 2 song were written for Liam, he wrote 6 songs by himself and the others were co-written. Pretty impressive.

Hopefully this record will finally give him the confidence to do it all alone. I always said he was capable of it. He just need a good producer and maybe a bit of help, but Liam is a songwriter.
It's just that it's taking 20 years to finally accept that.

Really impressed with that. I kinda assumed Liam’s songwriting credit on this track in particular was due to a lyrical contribution, not musical.

I kinda assumed Liam’s songwriting credit on this track in particular was due to a lyrical contribution, not musical. Im baffled a bit as to why when asked about it in the promotion, he always said he only changed a couple of phrases. Either hes turned into the most modest bloke in the world or they really wanted to hide how much Liam had done himself on this record.

In a recent interview I’m sure LG said Greg Kurstin came up with the riff. He said he went into the studio and Greg had a riff, and they built the song up from there. I’ll try and find the interview.

"When I'm in Need" and "Bold" are the first two songs that liam has written. With these, Warner offered him a contract. "When I'm In Need" refer two writers (Liam Gallagher-Iain Archer) but 90% of the song is written by Liam.

Either hes turned into the most modest bloke in the world or they really wanted to hide how much Liam had done himself on this record. Obviously, they're trying to hide Liam's input in the songwriting for the songs he's been given. Liam has gave little details about the process and the journalists have not asked a lot of questions about the process, although it's a very interesting topic... Even if his involvement is 0.01% of the song it will still be co-credited in the booklet. The ratio is hidden to the public, but usually, there is one.

If they really decided that it's better to hide Liam's contribution to the record then something really wrong is happening with this world.

There are 8 out of 15 songs credited solely by Liam. So he has really contributed to this record. Only two songs are not credited by Liam in some way. The other songs, who knows. Probably in "Wall of Glass" he has only contributed slightly and in "When I´m in need", probably this Iaian Archer man only contributed in the outro.

If they really decided that it's better to hide Liam's contribution to the record then something really wrong is happening with this world. Well it's only guessing, but the questions about it have been really thin on the subject. It's always the same thing he went to LA to contribute, got some from other songwriters. but that's about all we know. As a journalist, it's a question i would have dug into a lot. coz that is what's interesting about this record. It's all Liam, no Noel, no ex-Oasis. So why not ask the questions ? There are 8 out of 15 songs credited solely by Liam. So he has really contributed to this record. Only two songs are not credited by Liam in some way. The other songs, who knows. Probably in "Wall of Glass" he has only contributed slightly and in "When I´m in need", probably this Iaian Archer man only contributed in the outro. Never said he didn't write any. It's just that a good bulk of the better songs on the record are co-written. As a fan, i'm interested in knowing how they came up for every song. How did they work, who came up with what parts... stuff like that. Even for the songs he's written, how does he work on it ? alone, on the couch, in a studio ? When does inspiration strikes...etc lots of informations Noel usually gives and tells with great details. "Top tune man" isn't really enough Liam is a good songwriter and i'd love to know more is all.
