Liam didn't write all the songs and he embraced the help of others (who quite frankly knew what they were doing). If he'd tried it by himself it would've been a beady eye 2.0 so I'm happy he let Debbie and Greg help etc.

As You Were is a great title. It suits Liam down to the ground.

If he'd tried it by himself it would've been a beady eye 2.0 so I'm happy he let Debbie and Greg help etc. Pretty much this. He can write good tunes no doubt, but he's also written some absolute stinkers with Oasis and Beady Eye and they would have crept into a full album I have no doubt. Though he was usually atrocious with the rockers, it's ironic then that Greedy Soul is one of his best songs he's written - no doubt a perception helped by that live performance from Air Studios which is, unbelievably, one of his greatest ever performances in my opinion. Different songwriters also mix it up a bit - Kurstin's effort is excellent as is the guy who wrote Paper Crown (or is that also Kurstin). Two completely different songs but both very strong, and the Beady Eye comparisons where the songs were wimpish, derivative and flimsy are kept to a minimum. That's another great thing about As You Were - no malign presence from Gem and Andy's pathetic songwriting efforts (it's important to add that Liam's songwriting were the strongest, or at least always had the most potential, from a largely sorry bunch). It's arguably never been as strong as this for an Oasis fan like myself. Liam has so far released a strong set of tracks and his voice to my disbelief has rediscovered its venom and attack on the live stage. He has, as they say, got his mojo back. Meanwhile, Noel is sampling Brian Eno and Ice Cream and promising to release a very unique album that will showcase just why he is a great songwriter. ALL OF THIS backs up why Oasis are a great act, from singer to songwriter. It makes our arguments stronger to any pretentious detractors of the band. If you are pathetic and petty enough that you have divided them into two camps and willing one of them fail, then you're no Oasis fan.

Quite possibly the best Gallagher album closer in I've All I Need since Champagne Supernova.

If you are pathetic and petty enough that you have divided them into two camps and willing one of them fail, then you're no Oasis fan. Really great last 2 paragraphs. Maybe some have been as childish enough to come on here and look to divide but i can only speak for myself and a few others when i say that back in the "Beady Eye days" i was tired of coming on to see them get absolutely trashed, while at the time, Noel's album was universally being lapped up as the greatest thing since Morning Glory etc. When there was people who seen it as actually quite derivative (a word you said for Beady Eye songs) ,and ironically as time went on people didnt rate HFB nearly as highly as they did on release. Basically what im saying is when you have such strong opinions about songs like "wimpish" and "pathetic" (which is absolutely fine to say that btw) you will always incite heated debate from those who do like the songs. That's just the way it is. And through that there will always be a divide. I will never understand why, moderators included, posters get so shocked when threads turn into Liam vs Noel because that is what this era is. Let't not beat around the bush here. BOTH brothers have been quick to remind us of each others shortcomings as soon as they've been highlighted, and naturally as fans we will debate this.

I enjoy both Noel and Liam so whenever people take sides and start insulting "the other team", it gets on my nerves because sometimes people act extremely childish and end up insulting one or the other. besides it's also tiring to see the same arguments bleed into every thread

I hope Liam and Noel will takeaway from the success of their upcoming albums the power of collaboration. That is, acknowledging weaknesses, being open to new ideas, and sacrificing ego or initial creative vision in the name of creating great music. When Liam and Noel are left to their own devices, we get drivel like DGSS and HC, massive production fuck-ups like HFB, and terrible tracklists. Hopefully 2017 is the beginning of a paradigm shift for both Gallaghers as they realize that there's nothing wrong with admitting that they can't do it all themselves, asking for a little help when they need it, and that their judgment may not always be the best.

This! Not so long ago I thought we'd seen the last of Liam, or certainly for a long long time anyway. I'd have been happy to have just seen him take some baby steps back into music, perhaps a one song collaboration or a couple of one off live shows here and there. To see him not only jump into a new album and big tour with his name on the marquee but to also witness his voice returning to a decent state and seeing him knock out some genuinely cracking tunes? It's already a fantastic comeback IMO, the album going to Number 1 would be the icing on the cake.

^Totally agree. Depressing time in the music world when Liam wasnt around. Touch wood - its all gone so well, hes done the right thing, get help with the song writing to polish what he had already.
What seemed a huge amount of time before the album came out was right in the end for promotion etc. The gigs have gone well, people have got used to the songs and I'll be honest when he announced his tour i was nervous for the sales. How wrong i was - selling out immediately and large venues, impressive as anything.
The marketing by the record company has been spot on, lots of interviews, TV stuff, gigs etc. All spot on, i've grown to the songs now and really like them so for me presonally the album will be brilliant.
Just good to have Liam back, could cut back on some of the aggressive Noel tweets but everything else has been brilliant. Good time to be a fan.

It seems as if it's going to do well enough to guarantee a second album and hopefully set up a very prosperous solo career for RKID.
