Hey guys let me start this off by saying this is really really hard for me to do and i'm embarrassed and really ashamed of this because i have never had to ask anyone for anything in this way. First off a few weeks ago i hurt my back pretty bad and broke part of my vertebra and have a disc fully ruptured. I have not been able to work more then a few hours each week since then and my problem is i'm not making enough to even cover my insurance costs (If i miss the my insurance will be canceled) and money for my son. I have not got a pay check in 4 weeks and because of surgery and everything else it could be up to a month till i see another paycheck. I hate to ask anyone for anything but the problem is I cant have my son go hungry or go without. I have already used up all my savings i had to try and keep afloat. If it was just me I could maybe find a way to live and if i go hungry so be it because its getting that bad. I also don't have any family that is able to help me out on this. My friends are great but they also arn't the type to understand how things are so bad so they arn't there for me like i would have wished. My one problem is my office lady at work messed up my insurance and when she filled out our papers she unchecked the short term disability so i have no way to get any money for my time I am missing. Friday is my first surgery and i got a letter today that my insurance isn't covering $600 of it and i need $100 upfront which is hard when you already have no money. I'm really unsettled and fearing Friday (Im scared for real because of what can happen) because the surgery they are doing the doctor says only has a 25% successes rate which isn't very good. I will probably end up needing a much bigger surgery to fix it again. So that is the situation I am in right now. Like i said its very embarrassing but i don't know what else to do. I know this is a family on here even if it is dysfunctional and i'm a newer member to that family but i know if i have a chance to get help you guys and girls are where i could try and turn to. If someone else on here needed help and I was in the position to help id help any of you out. I made sure i asked if it was OK before i posted this because i did not want anyone getting mad at me for posting this or asking for help. I'm sure some people will probably think different of me and look down on me but i really hope not. To add to all this I don't know how this will all work out to see Liam here in DC because i'm going to try and crawl or wheel myself there in a wheel chair because i cant miss seeing him since i never have had the chance 2. I'm hoping i will be able to meet some people from on here at the show which will be really a cool thing if im able to make it. I know a concert is the last thing i should be worrying about right now but its one of the few things that is keeping me going and wanting to fight this thing and try and be better in a fast amount of time. Thank you guys here is the link to the page to donate. If you know anyone one here that might be able to help get the word around because i don't know how much this part of the site people norm go to and if no one sees it there's no help in it so get the word around to all the good people on here. I hope that it works since you are in a different country a lot of you. Thank you again (I did clear this with the forum first so everyone knows) www.youcaring.com/richardhaugh-920137Rick Haugh

again thank you to anyone who helps. I really don't know what I can do to give back or say at this point other then thank you. Like i said in my post i hope this don't make anyone feel weird about me or think different because I am a late comer to the forum and have learned to love it very fast and found a whole group of people into the same thing as me that i don't have anywhere else. The only positive that has come of this is a few of the videos I have made while i'm not able to leave the bed or do anything. I hope i never bother anyone to much with them or anything. Also I need to give out a huge Thank You out to mimmihopps for taking the time to help me with this and give me a place to do it. Lastly i know times are hard for alot of people these days and makes me feel bad asking for the help. Thank you all and Live Forever Thank you all

There are some organizations that can assist you with insurance payments and other ways... try Patient Services www.patientservicesinc.org/ if they can't assist you than they might be able to direct you to someone. I have several chronic diseases and can relate... Good luck!

Most people wont even give you a chance these days. Even if it turns out not being a huge success i'm thankful for it and to everyone who even gave out good words.

I will let you all know how Friday goes once I'm home. We will not know right away if it worked or not but they will have a better idea. They said by Monday if it worked i should be 1000% feeling better so lets all cross our fingers. Guys you do not know how much this means to me and helps. It is far from covering everything but it keeps me afloat for now. Thank you and I love you all for real and I have no idea who donated the amount of money they did and obviously didn't wanna be known bc they did it without putting a name or info but to who ever you are thank you and I know it came from someone on here. You are amazing. I do not want anyone to feel shorted on here or feel like im not happy or taking advantage of them because thats as far from the truth as possible. I never dreamed i would reach that goal so i didnt make it a very high goal. I think i am going to raise it up a little just to see if it can help me out more in the longer term of the next month. (I have some people still asking if they could help me so the only way to do that is to raise the amount. Thats my main reason for doing this because of one or two people that contacted me about helping yet)(If anyone thinks negatively of this please let me know because i dont want that at all) That goal i reached will get me caught up on my bills i was behind with but friday i have to come up with $100 out of the gate and then $500 more. Then i will still have about a 3 week period if the surgery works till i will have a real income. The doctor has said its about a 25% chance of working on the first try so we will see. So i really hope no one thinks im trying to get extra out of anyone. I do not expect anyone to give me another penny but i still have a few people asking about it and if it can help me in the longer term of the next month or two because on top of the surgery bills there will be alot of other medical costs that are going to come up. In closing i thank you and if anyone still wants to pitch in your more then welcome to at the same link. I LOVE YOU ALL! www.youcaring.com/richardhaugh-920137

Latest Update: It has now been 6 days since i had my back worked on and things have not been going well. Ever since i have been having almost nonstop migraines and the doctors think it is from a spinal drip. Tomorrow i go back to see the surgeon to find out what he wants to do. He said that most likely i will have to have a Blood Patch done which is where they will draw blood from my arms and then inject it around the spine in hopes that it will seal the hole shut. If that does not work then i do not know what happens. So i was hoping to go back to work this week but now have missed another week and if i have to have the next surgery it will mean more missed time. Lets hope for the best but nothing seems to be going right. Thanks everyone. Unless its good news i will not be updating again because i know this isnt the place to always talk about this

Also please don't worry, you can always let us know how it goes, good news, less good news. It might not help much, but it's better to have the place/people where you can your heart out. We all wish you the best of the luck, Rick. Sending a warm hug from the other side of the ocean.

Sorry to hear all you're going through and I hope you're doing better.
I'm not sure if you're in the US, but if you are, a few things that might help. Google United Way 211. There are search tools to resources that should be able to help you.
Also, if you have anything at all showing that you elected the Short Term Disability (like a benefits confirmation statement) when you signed up for your benefits - you can take that back and push for them to correct the error. If it's a company provided benefit, and she simply forgot to check the box, you should also push that issue as well. When the error is on the part of the employer, there is usually something that can be done to correct it. If the error is on the part of the employee, that is typically a different story, and you need to wait until your next open enrollment period to elect the benefit. But I feel very strongly that you should push that issue if it's not your fault the error occurred.
Also check to see if your company has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and/or a Health Advocate Program. There are often additional benefits available here for no cost to you - such as a limited number of free counseling services, resource referrals, insurance claim negotiations, etc. Some companies offer these benefits at no cost to employees, and they are very valuable resources especially when you're undergoing a serious medical condition.
Lastly, see what options your medical insurance program has. Often they have additional programs to help ensure that you're healing quickly and taking care of your health and wellness. Things like Disease Management programs and Wellness Coaches and nurselines. These are all there to ensure that you're getting the care that you need. If you're getting bills that you have questions on, your insurance company and a Health Advocate program can both help to re-review these. You also have options for payments plans as well, so don't forget to ask about these!
I hope maybe some of this is helpful and wish you all the best in feeling better soon! Take care!!
