I feel like it was great for the original version of the band, and after associating it with all this great music after all these years, I don't really think about it. But looking at SOTSOG to DOYS and now reflecting on the band altogether it feels kind of off.
It always looked cool written down and I love the original logo. But it's too much of a pop name. I'd have it be something with a slightly darker tone now. Most of their influences had names that were better and more versatile. I tell people my favorite band is "Oasis" knowing of course they'll be thinking of Wonderwall and some guys with Beatles haircuts and I feel like I'm 12 years old. Other than that, still like it.

Yes. Most of their influences had names that were better and more versatile. The Beatles is a terrible band name. Don't use a pun as your band name, urgh. It's up there with: "What shall we call the band man?" "Well, we play metal... so, how about... Metallica?" "Fuck yeah man." Many great bands have terrible names to be honest. I don't think Oasis are one of them.

Beady Eye is a much better name than the ridiculous title that is 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds'. I usually just refer to it as 'Noel's solo stuff'.

Compared to their mid-90's counterparts.... Oasis is no Butthole Surfers, but it gets the job done.

I like "Oasis" but I get what you mean, the one short word band names sound very 90's (Blur, Pulp, Suede, Verve...). But I'm glad they didn't change it when Andy and Gem joined because that name standed out of all the 00's guitar bands who had names starting with "The" (The Vines, The White Stripes, The Killers, The Libertines, The Hives, The Strokes...)
Beady Eye wasn't a bad name, actually. Is not a name for a huge band but it fits ok to a small 60's vibe band, which is what they ended up being.

'Arctic Monkeys' must be among the worst. I bet Alex Turner goes through that decision every night in his head before he goes to sleep.

Yes, it's great. Even though I hate how french people pronounce it like the soda brand " O-ha-ziss". In general, I love bands names with only one word.

not sure you can ask that sort of question here. We are all a bit too far involved now and the name has so much meaning to us.
It looks better as oasis rather than Oasis however

It kind of revives the whole animal name thing (The Beatles, Eagles, The Crickets etc.) and puts an interesting spin on it in a way which isn't too weird or overly long. But then again, with other band names like Kasabian, Catfish and The Bottlemen and Tame Impala they've not got much competition have they?

That's really funny, because I think Kasabian is an absolutely brilliant band name Sounds cool to my ears, and with an intresting "origin" as well. With Arctic Monkeys I think it's mostly the word "arctic" that I have an issue with. So you're arctic monkeys, what do you wanna say with that? To me it says absolutely nothing. Not that a band name must necessarily have some meaning behind it, but at least I think it should evoke some cool images in your head when you hear it. And for me it doesn't, but if it does for you, well that's okay

Tony Ferrino wasn't keen on the name, or indeed the band Classic Steve Coogan clip from 1997.
