Leeds United chairman Professor John McKenzie has promised that fans' favourite Alan Smith will not be sold, despite the club's perilous financial position.
In the wake of the club reporting record losses rumours have been circulating that Smith will leave Elland Road in January in order to help balance the books.
But when McKenzie addressed the Supporters' Club's annual dinner on Sunday he insisted that if the striker were to leave Leeds then he would follow.
He said: "Your Player of the Year personifies Leeds United. I have told the City - and I mean this - that I would go before Alan goes."
Local-boy Smith has failed to find his best form this season, but remains a popular figure with fans as his four goals make him the club's leading scorer.
Smiths a brillant player!!
