I'm not sure this is a good idea for a thread. Then don't comment if you don't want to

Isn't God a concept by which we measure our pain?

I'm agnostic. I believe there could be something "supernatural" in our universe but I don't like the concept of God.

I don't mind answering questions or discussing religious topics, but it's kind of hard to simply dive into a topic as general as this one.

Whenever a Religion thread/discussion appears, it never ends well. Especially because people from the same "religious point" have different opinions themselves and there goes these ""Prudes"" arguing who's more saint again...

Catherine Corless is a modern day saint. Not that the catholic church will ever say that! At a glance it looks like a small plot beside just another housing estate in the west of Ireland. In reality it is a scar on Irish society – a mass grave that could hold a substantial number of the up to 800 infants who died at the Bon Secours Mother and Baby home to which it was attached. www.thejournal.ie/tuam-babies-scene-3270181-Mar2017/

Paul Weller is the father, Noel Gallagher is the son, Liam Gallagher is the Holy Spirit. Fixed. Fine tuned. Anyway ... I was deeply Christian until I was 25, then a close friend turned to Calvinism and started saying some crazy shit. It was enough that I questioned the whole religion and decided I no longer believed. I call myself an agnostic atheist. Agnostic because the existence of a god cannot be proved or disproved, and atheist because lacking an active belief makes me one who does not believe. The Judeo-Christian god specifically as defined in the bible has too many characteristics that I find contradict one another so I would positively assert that he does not exist.

Please don't turn this thread into stupid Noel vs Liam thread. Thanks. I personally wasn't aiming at that, though. Just your old "Noel is a god" joke.

Do you also struggle to understand how human beings can have contradictory traits as well? I'm not poking fun at all. Curious really. If you can believe that a human being contains multitudes, then why is it so hard to believe that God can? In theory... god contains all multitudes, right? Maybe this just went too deep for a casual forum chat.

Always struggled with the concept of a God that is supposedly all knowing, watching folks kill for Him for thousands of years. Would not such a being make his presence known to his followers? To unite people in love and good deeds? To say stop fighting about the fine print? If He were to exist, I would think he couldn't help Himself in this regard. I respect folks who do good work in God's name. I despise those of any religious persuasion who use the message for harm or discrimination.
If I was inclined, I would probably lean towards Buddism. I do believe in certain precepts, though I certainly lack anything near the discipline required to reach enlightenment.

I personally don't really care about the religious side of God. But I'm extremely fascinated about the birth of our universe. It's such a big mystery even some kind of "god" might not be impossible.
But on the other hand, if God created us all, who created him? I mean, I'm trying to understand what caused the Big Bang and was there anything before that. If the answer for our existence is God, then what kind of "person" is he? It's just so difficult to think that some things might not have beginning and they have always existed.
