At 1.29.30 on the iPlayer link - surprised to hear the Evening Session recording of Cigarettes and Alcohol there, rather than the album mix.
Is that an upgrade over the version currently out there? Can't remember offhand if we've got a digitally-sourced copy of that session. Think the version I last heard was transferred from a cassette recording of the original FM broadcast.

Must admit that broadcast had passed me by. When Liz played the track I thought it was the earlier Hit the North recording for a second (the one mislabeled on official releases as a demo), but Liam's vocal sound was a giveaway. It's very dry on the Evening Session recording.

Thanks mossy, too kind! Eva - that's a great find. Thanks for sharing the link. Interesting to hear from the Realies again on this session. It was funny to hear them publicly name check all those more obscure tracks such as Comin' on Strong. They had quite a list ready! Slightly awkward in places too, like with the mention of Whatever, and more pointedly with the loss of production credits when some of the material they worked on was commercially released (Alive etc). I hope that the Realies still have the master tapes for these sessions. Would be great to hear the complete Liverpool demos mastered from a professional format. The quality of the other demos that Adrian played (sourced from cassette) sounded muddy and flat in comparison to the white label mix of Columbia. If the multitracks survive, all the other demos could of course be remixed to the same high standard. I guess it's ultimately a question of whether the Real People would be willing to grant access to their master tapes (assuming they were kept).

The Fostex reel-to-reel they mentioned was probably this model.

Was very interested to hear the mention of Whatever. There is that demo knocking about from the Under the Boardwalk bootleg which no other trace of info ever emerged from. Maybe it is this Liverpool demo, although it doesn't seem to have that same sound as the other Liverpool demos.

A full Liverpool demos release, sourced from the multitracks. I've said this before but just give me an hour tape of Noel's guitar and that would do me.
