10/4/2003 BERLIN (AP) - A popular sweet in Germany called ``poppy cake'' will trigger positive tests for doping, Bundesliga officials officially warned players Saturday. mmmm... cake Eating six pieces of ``Mohnkuchen,'' (choco's fave)whose distinctive ingredient is crushed poppy seeds, in the two days leading up to a match will produce levels of opium and morphine above that allowed in drug tests. That, at least, was the result of an experiment involving five people. Three registered positive after chomping down on the treat, sold in every German bakery. Bundesliga teams, who had gotten wind of the test earlier, are already scrambling to keep their players away from the cake. Bayern Munich ordered its secretaries to make sure all meals at hotel and restaurants during team travels are ``poppycake free,'' while coaches are warning their players to stay away from the sweet. The team doctor at Werder Bremen ordered the cake returned last week when host FC Cologne sent it into the visiting dressing rooms. VfB Stuttgart has also denied that its recent success is due to its young players being high on the cake. The Bundesliga frontrunners are unbeaten, unscored upon and upset Manchester United Wednesday in the Champions League. ``I guarantee you that's not the reason. We only eat marble cake here,'' coach Felix Magath said.
