ALEX FERGUSON AND Arsene Wenger both believe they have landed the goalkeeper who will make the difference this season. Ferguson has certainly tried hard to find the man to fill convincingly the gap left by Peter Schmeichel, who quit Old Trafford in 1999 after claiming the Treble. Mark Bosnich, Massimo Taibi, Fabien Barthez and Ricardo have all tried but failed to convince the Old Trafford boss that they can be his man. Who would have guessed Ferguson would have found the answer in the United States and New York Metro Star No 1? But Tim Howard, 24, looks like he was made out of the same mould as Schmeichel. After a super summer tour of the States, he was then the hero in the penalty shootout against Arsenal at the Community Shield. Since then, he has let in only two goals in six matches and he has impressed all around him. Ferguson said: “It was our goalkeeping coach Tony Coton who first brought my attention to Tim — and we backed his judgment. “At first I thought we would have to slowly integrate him into the side but his performances and the confidence he has shown demanded that he started the season. “He has a great kick and dominates his box well. He has certainly had a good beginning to his career with us.”<br>
