While clearing out the effects of his father Ron after his death in 1999, David Reynolds discovered a meticulously kept archive of his professional football career which spanned 20 years. Those records form the basis of this new publication and thanks to Orion Books we have three copies to be won. Ron Reynolds began his career at Aldershot in 1945 aged 17, kept goal for Tottenham in the mid-1950s and finished his career with Southampton in 1964. ‘Ron Reynolds - The Life of a 1950’s Footballer’ is a sensitive account of his life and features interviews with many of his contemporaries. Reynolds was an impressive authoritarian figure between the sticks, and an honourable and outspoken character off the field. These were volatile times in football before abolition of the maximum wage, and he took it upon himself to become PFA representative at Spurs. Reynolds was also well known in the south due to his coaching with many of the major private & state schools in the south being one of the earliest qualified FA coaches, in the Walter Winterbottom and Bobby Robson era. The book offers a fascinating insight into the life of a professional footballer half a century ago, providing a very valid and topical comparison between Ron Reynolds and a modern contemporary such as David Seaman, David James or Fabien Barthez. ‘Ron Reynolds - The Life of a 1950’s Footballer’ is now available, price £16.99, but if you want to win one of our three copies you’ll need to correctly answer the following question to enter the prize draw: Go to this site to have a go!! www.nationwide.co.uk/football/common/CompEntry.asp?W=0&ID=50sFootballercheers to nationwide.co.uk
