Leeds United boss Peter Reid is planning to hijack Sunderland's bid to sign Republic of Ireland international midfielder Colin Healy.
The 23-year-old free agent has already agreed terms with the Black Cats but has been unable to formally sign because of a disagreement about whether or not his former club Celtic are entitled to a transfer fee.
With Sunderland prepared to call in FIFA to avoid paying a fee for Healy, Reid has jumped in and offered the player the chance to spend a week training at Elland Road with a view to signing a permanent deal.
The Whites boss is also confident that he can resolve the issue of a transfer fee amicably with Celtic manager Martin O'Neill.
Reid told Sky Sports News: "I still have to speak to Martin O'Neill about that one, but I am not expecting any problems."
Healy left Parkhead at the end of last season after failing to cement a regular place in the Bhoys' first team, starting just 16 SPL games in four years.
