Mucky Fingers - I like Noel's lyrics which are above the usual cliche and the middle eight is great (the "fed up with life in the city" part).
Soldier On - criminally underrated primarily due to it coming after the terrible three tracks before. It would have worked perfectly as a coda to the album if there had been an epic track preceding it (much in the way that Married With Children's contrasting style works perfectly as the soothing, contemplative end to a uproarious album). Surprisingly one of the better Dave Sardy produced tracks (but mainly because much of its taken from the demo). The hazy psychedelic swirl it becomes is hypnotic, and the instrumentation is more interesting than most of the albums dull clunking guitars. The mellotron and the reverb effect on Liam's voice is really really cool. A bit similar to Soul Love in fact with its understated fashion.

Personally this should have been on Standing On The Shoulder of Giants along with Let's All Make Believe, make the record even darker.
It doesn't seem to get a lot of mentions on the forum.
It should have been the template to Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. It would have been cool to see Noel work on these in the studio and develop a vocal melody on top of these instrumentals.
Echoes In The Sun by Paul Weller is another Noel instrumental which proves that, with a bit more work, they could have made an album that was a significant shift from the first three.

Echoes Around The Sun is a great tune, the bassline is excellent. Again, the instrumental has the darker tones which I think Noel excels at. To think he had quite a bit of this song completed while working on Dig Out Your Soul and then he decides to work with Weller on it instead.
I like Weller's lyrics and vocal but I do think Noel's voice would have suited it too. Hopefully a version of him singing it is somewhere in the vaults.
He really should take more risks, release these kind of tunes as a side project or website only tracks.
Noel and Weller's latest collaboration for the Monkees is pretty cool too.

I've always enjoyed Liam's Beatles And Stones. Of his 2 minute, throwaway rocker songs, it's definitely my favourite.
I like the bits of boogie-woogie piano on there much more than I liked them on Bring The Light; I like Sharrock's laid back drumming style (very reminiscent, I think, of Whitey (when he could still give a shit) on songs like Underneath The Sky); and I am rather partial to the lyric, "Well it freaks them, mama, I'm not doing what I'm told / Well it freaks them, mama! you know I can't be bought and sold".
I can well imagine the biggest most boring suit at Ignition Management hearing Liam sing it freaks them I'm not doing what I'm told, for the first time, after he'd gone and said "People will be naming their kids Beady Eye by the end of the year", or done some disastrous TV performance, and thinking, 'You're fucking telling me!'
Does anyone remember a band ...I think the subways the had a cover of See The Sun? it was on their myspace lol hahahahahah
I don't remember The Subways doing it although they had a tune called "She Sun" from 2005, but I remembered seeing this video years ago from an Oasis tribute band in Rome I think-
"It's a bit early in the midnight hour for me, to go through all the things I wanna be. I don't believe in everything I see, you know I'm blind so why d'you disagree?"
