Barcelona have admitted that they are unlikely to sign Leeds United striker Mark Viduka because he does not have an EU passport.
The Australian's agent had said the Catalan giants were interested in Viduka but the club has played down the link.
"Any move for Viduka is complicated because he is a non-EU player," said Barca's vice-president Sandro Rosell.
"I cannot see a move taking place unless Leeds are interested in taking one of our non-EU players in a swap deal, which I don't think is likely."
Spanish league rules allow clubs to only register four non-EU players and play three of them, but Barca already have five non-EU players in their squad.
