What's your favorite cover of an artist by Oasis?
I'll go for this...

I Am the Walrus, My Generation and Cum on Feel the Noize (B-side is horrible, but it's great live).
I also like Gimme Shelter and Sons of the Stage.
(I don't think Street Fighting Man is that bad, I wish Noel re-thought that one for the reissue.)

It's this. Or this: Can't think of too many Noel covers that are any good? Strawberry Fields, There is a Light, Helter Skelter, Merry Xmas Everybody, You've Got To hide Your Love Away, Heroes are all HORRIBLE. Hey, Hey, My My is OK at best.

I know a lot of people don't agree, but I absolutely love their version of Heroes.

I'm not a fan of Noel's cover of To Be Someone. Maybe because I knew The Jam's original far before hearing Noel's cover.

Most Oasis covers are dull at best because they're far too similar to the originals, probably because Noel and Liam held the originals in such high regard that they couldn't even consider rearranging the song. However, with their covers of I Am the Walrus, Cum On Feel the Noize, and Help, they were able to give the songs a new identity, to make the songs their own, and that's why they're great covers.

Imo My Generation is one of the most overrated songs of all time.
For me their best cover is Noel's cover of the Smiths... There is a light...

I like There Is A Light - think Noel does it so so well. However, their best cover is probably, empirically, I Am The Walrus. It is probably an Oasis classic - some lass I work with went to see them at Maine Road (drove up the day after she passed her test from Kent) and is a huge fan and thinks that it is actually one of their songs

Their version of T-Rex's Get It On is spot on.

Their version of T-Rex's Get It On is spot on. So are their covers of Imagine and Dead End Street.

A decent vocal from Liam but when the backing band comprised of Damon Minchella (Bass guitar), Steve Cradock (Guitar) of both OCS and Weller's backing band, along with Noel, Weller himself and his long term drummer Steve White (Alan's older brother) then it was never going to stray too far from the original. A bit on the recording narrated by Gary Crowley plus the song.

Is there actually an Oasis cover of Gimme Shelter, or was that just by Beady Eye?

Is there actually an Oasis cover of Gimme Shelter, or was that just by Beady Eye? Beady Eye as far as I know- Oasis did 'Street Fighting Man' which IMO had a fair influence years later on 'Lyla'

Within You Without You has always been a favourite of mine Love it. Had the pleasure of seeing The Beatles Love, the Cirque Du Soleil show in Vegas earlier this year. There's a great mix on that album, Harrison's Within You With Out vocal against the Tomorrow Never Knows track. Amazing stuff, who wouldn't love a Beatles mix album arranged by George Martin and son?! in terms of Oasis covers I struggle to debate them in too much detail.... As a 14 year old hearing I Am the Walrus and Cum On Feel the Noize, I knew next to nothing about the originals, I just knew the Oasis versions were fucking brilliant! So I can't get past that emotional connection to critique them at all. I even love Noel's Heroes! Street Fighting Man was a bit of a letdown though, I remember being gutted we were getting that rather than a new song.

That Love album version you're talking about was actually the inspiration for Oasis's cover.
