I love Episode 7, but I'm totally with you there. I mean, with all the hate Episode 1 gets, Duel of the Fates might be the single best piece of SW music - 7 had practically nothing memorable, bar the occasional reuse of the classics. Not to mention these two, which does more to convey the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker than anything George Lucas wrote from 1997 to 2004. I thought that about the music the first time I watched it, but I changed my mind the second time. It may not be as memorable, but it serves the film well. It's the trend that's going on recently with film, that the score isn't as distinctive by itself, but instead kinda is just meant to flow with the scenes and support them. It's not the loud bombastic score of the others, but I think it does the job...

Jaws, Superman, ET, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Star Wars. Those movies aren't the same without his scores. Every single one of them I can hum off the top of my head. I can't imagine those movies with anyone else's work. Don't forget Schindlers List and Saving Private Ryan. And Lincoln as well

it was sh!t. shoddy acting and a stoopid script. the character depth/development was virtually non-existent. and bringing back the OG cast came across as cheesy. i also felt it was trying to be too funny. the whole thing reeks of being forced. its pretty much just a really lame version of episode IV... another fail from JJ. i dont know how this guy is so highly rated?!?

If you don't like it I get it but this was probably best acted film of the series. I would agree with that. lol I've watched it twice and will see it in imax tomorrow again. I really enjoy these movies. It's a fun intergalactic adventure. I suppose I don't mind the recurring themes too much because in my mind the Skywalker Saga's have generally been a story with the same choices presented again and again. I wouldn't have minded and I don't think that it would have been detrimental if Rey had been left on a planet a little less like Tatooine. Because to me that's the line where the similarities get a bit too on the nose. Although the Star Killer base isn't original I think I am more OK with it than people generally are. To a certain extent, the First Order is attempting to resurrect the strength of the old Imperium and the pinnacle of that strength was the Death Stars. It somehow makes sense that they would have attempted their own version...and given the grandiosity of Snope (making himself a 30 foot hologram pad to talk to his underlings?) that they would have worked to have made it even bigger and more impressive is reasonable. It's an order obsessed with it's own lineage much like Kylo Ren is. And to be fair to it...even though it had a trench run...they didn't leave an open port that lead to the core so they did learn something. The flaw had to be opened by Chewy and Han. That being said if they show another planet destroying base in the rest of the trilogy...I call foul. I know people get really annoyed about the final fight of Rey and Kylo Ren. But I can let that go. She was handy with a weapon before that so I don't think it's crazy that she would have some capability with a lightsaber even though it's a different type of weapon. I think she used it more like a staff than a sword many times particularly in the beginning so they did play with the usual forms in a character appropriate way. Plus I am of the opinion that there is some sort of force training in her history. I think she was a student at Luke's academy and that she was hidden following it's fall. Although I can't explain her lack of memories yet. I think the resolution of her characters history will decide how I feel about that fight in the end. What does bug me about her is her deus exmachina skills as a pilot. She was dropped on a planet as a child, before which she would not have been allowed the controls of a proper spaceship surely due to her youth. She says she never traveled off planet since. She appeared to be a starving scavenger barely making enough to feed herself. When did she manage to gain the knowledge that she would have needed to fly the Millennium Falcon like that and when did she have the time to develop what would surely have been a useless skill for her? I mean seriously? She says that she never even considered leaving the planet and as soon as she left wanted to go right back! Personally I thought they should have just kept Finn with Poe if they wanted to make their escape from the Jakku a brilliant aerial battle in the Falcon. Or maybe had them split up and Poe stagger into the town sometime after. Poe was established as an top notch pilot so I would have found it infinitely more believable than Rey being a master pilot despite what surely has to be limited opportunities to have practiced. Plus it would skipped over that clumsy moment of exposition when Poe randomly shows up later despite them implying that he had died on Jakku. Although it would have meant missing out on a couple of cute BB-8 moments. (the thumbs up when he lies for Finn and the sad reaction to Poe's death). I don't know...I feel like Poe was under-utilized so maybe it's just a reaction to that. I was a bit disappointed with Han's death. Not that he died. But the way he died. I wish that there had been some more development of that relationship before they had killed him. If they had even had 1 interaction between Kylo and Han onscreen before Kylo kills him. I think Kylo is an interesting villain and Ford was excellent as Han but I feel like there wasn't enough put into that relationship beyond exposition before they torched it for it to have had the emotional impact that it should have had. I'm a big softly these days...but I barely blinked when it happened. It should have been a massive emotional moment when a son kills his father. But it didn't feel like a son killing his father really. They were still just two characters and we never even got to see their connection before they severed it. Another plot point that bugs me a bit is that they say they go see Maz Kanata only because the Millenium Falcon is too easily tracked and would lead the First Order to the base...but then they end up taking the Millenium Falcon to the base anyways... Personally I can't wait for the directors cut Edit: and now I googled it and there won't be a directors cut! Grrr.

The music that plays during Han's death scene is incredible, when Kylo stabs him it gets so dramatic it makes me tear up every time

Heard the other day that, of all people, Nigel Godrich makes a cameo as a Stormtrooper.
I need to see this movie again!

I was gonna make a huge post and quote like 20 of your posts, but... too long, too boring. So:
- Rey rules. Totally. She's my new jedi. If she's Luke's daughter it would be too obvious, so I'm with the one who said Luke left her there so she wouldn't be killed. Great acting too, she nailed it. And those scenes facing Kylo were huge.
- Ben. Good acting too, great character. Powerful but unfinished. I like him as the villain. And I'm sure he'll grow.
- Solo. Ford is the star of the movie, takes a lot of footage, and it's like if years hadn't passed. It's not only a link with first movies, he's got a lot of weight. Which most fans love, I guess.
- Leia. I don't understand why people complaint bout her, I liked her scenes, and she's not such a bad actress. I think she's still got her presence, something easier if she ain't much time on screen.
- Chewie. We all love those grooooarrrrrs.
- The bad guy. Powerful, evil, hidden. Sounds familiar. I don't buy the theory he's the master of Palpatine. Palpatine would never let him live.
- That little alien with glasses. Not too relevant. And I still don't understand why Lupita's got that status, really.
- The traitor. Sometimes I think they wanted to show him as the new adventurer and the comic role. I didn't like him at all. My feeling is he could have been much better, both actor and role.
- Tall blonde from GoT. Like someone said above, promos made me think she'd be something. No, she's not. Maybe next time.
- Poe Dameron. Awesome. Just awesome.
- Luke. This one deserves a lil explanation. The movie plot is about finding him, which makes him the most powerful warrior in the galaxy. That links with return of the jedi, when jedis were super samurais instead of a bunch of tentacles with a cool saber. And the last scene, the two of em in what seems an important place... instant classic.
There were 3 or 4 moments in which I wanted to scream and raise my hands, including all the scenes with X-Wings and the two duels of Rey and Ben. I got what I wanted: a star wars movie with action, heroes, a good evil guy and light sabers. That's what original trilogy is for me.
Bad things? the death star planet, specially how they blow it, and the fans. Really, there's always someone complaining about anything. Too much of this, not enough of that...
Is it what Ep I should have been? yeah, totally. And way better than second trilogy. Is it a reboot of a new hope? nope, it's different. There are similarities, of course, cos it's the 7th movie... JJ had to put us there, in a familiar environment. You know, I love Zelda games, I've played almost all of them, and they all share things in common, but with a different story, or at least a different moment of the story, where some items are the same and other change, some puzzles/monsters/dungeons are familiar... and I enjoy a lot playing a new one, cos I know I'll get what I like, but not in the very same way as the previous games. Still, the death star planet was a bit too much.
I don't remember what I felt when I watched old movies, cos I was too little. All I know is I've seen them a lot of times and dig em. This one goes to the same place. Good movie, good action, good story, X-Wings and light sabers.

Im going to say that Rey has no family, like Anakin didnt have a father. And Luke found her, raised her as part of his Jedi school and obviously left her on Jaku. During 8 or 9 when Luke inevitably passes on (hopefully peaceful like yoda) he passes the Skywalker name to Rey.

I think there will be a face off between Kylo and Luke. Maybe like ESB, with one flying. Like this one, too.
Damn, one more thing in common..

Episode IX would then be Rey's love being the catalyst for Ren's redemption and the fall of the First Order. It may seem a little bizarre but the chemistry between Rey & Finn was one-sided, and Rey & Poe shared very little screen time (if any) in Episode VII so I can't see them being paired off together. They won't kill Ren without him being redeemed... He's a Skywalker / Solo afterall. But like I said, it's a pretty big stretch of the imagination.

Rian Johnson knows he's got an underused actor to work with. There is time to build up Poe and Rey. Especially since they are casting a new female lead to be paired up with Finn in episode XIII.
