I read the actual quote and looked into it's actual significance for perhaps the very first time, and it struck me how fittingly eerie it is.
The fact that the dramatic irony of Lennon's death just days after he said this fits perfectly with the apocalyptic nature of Dig Out Your Soul. That's genius. It still sounds stupid as hell as it's inaudible, but I now have a new found love and appreciation for this quote and song.
"As Churchill said, it's every Englishman's inalienable right to live where the hell he likes. What's it going to do, vanish? Is it not going to be there when I get back? - John Lennon, December 1980

I hate everything about it. I hate the fact it added to the 'beatles tribute band' oasis piss takers ammunition. I hate the fact it sounds so shit and forced and distracts from a nice outro. And I hate the quote itself. It should be EVERY MANS right, not just the english mans. Its the sort of quote EDL idiots get off whilst trying to out Muslims from England.

The only thing I proper hate is that it was the first Oasis single since 1994 to not chart in the top 10 (Ending a streak of 22 singles!). Yeah, because it's not a fucking Noel Gallagher song, ffs.

Really, all of Dig Out Your Soul is like that.
The outro of Bag it Up, The Turning's lyrics, the title "Waiting for the Rapture", the drum breakdown and outro of The Shock of the Lightning, the alien-like duo of (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady and Falling Down, the bold statement that no one has anything on them in Muffins, and the apocalyptic atmosphere in Soldier On that suggests "soldiering on" until the very end when it marches out to end it all.
It's cool to see that Oasis nailed down a concept-like album right at the very end, and eerie that the concept was the band's vision of what the apocalypse might be like.

Even though the second half is disappointing, DOYS is dirty and apocalyptic and I really love it. It's probably my third favorite Oasis album (shocking I know) and to me it paints such a grim picture of the world.

No B-sides(besides remix and demo) and being released after the album sealed the fate of this single. Falling Down had that DBTT outtake and the hype of the remix. Also Sonhbird was a top 10 hit.

Actually, the Lennon piece at the end of the best song on the album is about the only thing I really do like on DOYS. It's nice hearing his voice again, particularly on a song which sounds like a Lennon song, but I would say that, as I'm a huge Lennon fan.
And regardless of the Englishman context, yes it was a rather eerie thing to say, just before he died. It's not a dig at Muslims, or any other race. Its just Lennon being sarcastic.
This is the best sampling on an Oasis record since Fuckin in the Bushes, IMO.

I love it. Always have. But then I could listen to Lennon sing or speak for hours on end and not get bored. Perhaps it's because he's long since gone for this earth, I dunno, but there is something elusive about him that fascinates me.

Here's an off-air recording of the interview, broadcast 6/12/1980 on BBC Radio 1. The link below should start playing at the point where Lennon is asked the question that prompts the Churchill quote. As far as I can tell, it seems that quote was originally attributed to Churchill by Noël Coward. In Jeremy Paxman's book The English: A Portrait of a People, he cites the quotation in a section on Coward's reasons for leaving the UK in the ’50s. (Paxman, p.233)
